Coming off the KETO diet

Hi All, So I've been Keto for 2 years a 3 months. 2 years of that I have stalled really. The first 3 months I did loose.

Ive had enough. I'm bored of it and its making me miserable. I keep cheating - then mentally beating myself up - then going back on it and I feel rubbish. I'm stuck in some horrid cycle of self hate and now weight gain.

Has this happened to anyone else here?

What do you all eat? What do you all avoid?

I just want to be normal and eat normal meals with my kids....

I tried keto, just to see what it was like, but I did find it frustrating to have to monitor every gram I ate.

I think you're supposed to start with strict keto just to kick start yourself into ketosis. After that, you ease up on the carb allowance, until you find the amount that works best for you, at which point you don't need to monitor it anymore. Try doing that :)

My preference would be to increase carbs in the form of veggies at first, maybe with small quantities of rice or potato. I wouldn't dive right in to eating a full on carb heavy diet, as it'll be too much carb in one go!

I ended my keto diet after I developed a stomach ulcer. I could only face eating haribo at first, because it was digestively easy. I just swung right back into afternoon energy slumps and brain fog again though.

You might want to have a look at The Hybrid Diet by Patrick Holford & Jerome Burne. patrickholford.com/blog/hyb... You still have to count things unless you follow his recipes exactly

Hi have you heard of a guy called Mark Sisson. He has site called marks daily apple. He is a living keto experiment, everything you would ever need to know. You will need lots of reading time tho

I use the Paleo Mediterranean diet. Not being able to digest gluten (intolerant rather than Ceoliac) made it easier to give up bread, pasta, etc.

Keto felt too severe for me, especially since FM gives me reason enough to be gentle on myself.

I also replaced sugar with Inulin, partly because it is also a pre-biotic and increases the effectiveness of the pro-biotics I use to support my digestive tract.

I lost a LOT of weight this Summer from being too sick to eat much of anything after giving up pre-gablin (after 6-7 years) and moving onto Duloxetine. NOT a healthy way to do it. Definitely not recommended to do both at the same time!

However, coming out with no appetite gave me the opportunity to research a better diet and take it on.

Look up Paleo Mediterranean diet and see if it suits you.

Also, please bear in mind that Fibromyalgia not only effects what we feel like eating, but also our ability to digest and/or metabolize what we swallow. You may want to do your own research into what can help with these aspects of getting what you need from your food.

Oddly enough, I ended up in Amazon's sports' nutrition department ( "Other stores are available" ). It's as if simply getting through the day with Fibromyalgia needs the energy-intake levels of a marathon runner!

Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Gentle hugs, dx

p.s. I have managed to maintain my weight and haven't felt 'empty' since.

Hi - Just came across your post. 3 years later and wondered how things worked out with yours meds, diet and fibro etc. I have Hashimotos - thyroid autoimmune + migraines etc - and am trying Fodmap. It’s recommended for 2 to 6 weeks only as it’s so restrictive. It’s aim is to remove all problematic gut food, to help establish what things you’re sensitive to. Autoimmune is usually hereditary. My mum had fibro and IBS and a bunch of other stuff - all auto immune. So I thought it might be worth trying. 😊

I let go of the "diet" over Lockdown and put back on the weight I'd lost. But I still managed to keep down my pain levels. I put this down to reduced stress, improved gut health and by focussing on high protein / high green veg meals. Be gentle on yourself and good luck with this next step.Namaste, dee

I can totally relate with you. I have been trying to follow keto-diet for quite a long time. But couldn't keep up with it. Our busy & regular schedule does not match with the requirement it does have. I almost have stopped it.

So now all that has been working for me is to do a little exercise at least thrice a week, I drink a lot of water, I eat more vegan meal, Eats in small portions, takes weight loss supplement Super MIC B12.

Things that i avoided are processed food, junk food, heavy fat.

All you need to do is to be consistent with your habits & stick to it no matter what. I have been doing all of this for at least 2 months now along with this weight loss supplement, Super MIC B12. I have lost 7 pounds already. I am really satisfied with the results i am getting.

Just be positive & start fresh. Let it all go you will feel better. Things does workout when you really want to make it happen & if you need details about where you can purchase the weight loss supplement, just visit supermicb12.com/
