Graves disease and carbimazole

Hi, I am new to here while still trying to get my head around everything and understand what is going on. I am 32 with two young kids and recently been diagnosed with graves. I have been put on just 20mg carbimazole for 12-18 months to be reduced as TSH increases. For the first two months my head was clearer and felt much better in my self, however i now feel awful again, especially in the mornings and my mind is back to running on overdrive again. I am struggling with being the parent i want to be and juggling work with it. GP is monitoring the levels closely and will drop the dose when possible. I am only 4months in to treatment, getting migraines sickness nausea, generally feel unwell and mind on overdrive. I think i have had all bloods checked (maybe apart from vits). Has anyone else experienced similar to this?

I'm afraid that results without ranges are meaningless. Results vary from lab to lab, so we need the ranges that went with your results to be able to interpret them. Sorry. :)

Hopefully your GP has referred you to an endocrinologist. Hyper patients normally see an endo and doctors tend not to want to interfere with their treatment of the patient.

You might find it difficult to get your vitamins D and B12, ferritin and folates tested but it is worth persisting even if you have to pay to have them done yourself.

Ive just said to someone else that when I started my carb - I was treated with block and rep

Ace which is a bit different to how you are being treated, anyway, my pharmacist came out and said I should take a high strength vitamin C so I always took 1000 mcg slow release vitamin C with zinc. I always felt fairly well - well for someone with Graves! - and I put that down to the vitamin C.

I feel for you because it won’t be easy to get much rest with two kids and I know it’s easier said than done but try and get as much as you can. Be a bit selfish and do what you want to do not things you feel you should do.

Hi KT1111

I understand where you are coming from all too well. I was diagnosed with Graves this past February. I have 3 kids and was also feeling well for a bit after being medicated with Methimazole 10MG a day. Then new symptoms arose and I felt like I was going to Hypo rather than Hyper. Gained a little more weight, tired and not having the regular bowel movements.

Now I am only on 2.5mg of methimazole 4 days a week and I feel like I am hyper again. My mind just can't wrap my head around anything. I get sick all the time, in pain in my muscle joints, headaches and neck pain. I can't sleep, I have lost half the weight I gained and I go to the bathroom every time I eat. Crazy!

I don't know if you are like me, but I worry constantly about everything. Every ache I am a wreck and at a specialist or the ER. Its scary what this illness does to your body and mind. Before Graves I wasn't at the doctor for 3 years! Not good, but just so you understand, I am not normally a hypochondriac.

My endo told me it will take a year or more to get me stabilized. It feels like its been a decade!

I take a ton of vitamins, and hope you are getting all of yours. I take B-Complex (enough B-12 most important), D3, Iron, C 1,000 liquid daily, as well as Oil of Oregano, Turmeric Curcumin, and a probiotic and prebiotic supplements.

I am not taking CoQ10 or L-Carnitine which I am thinking of starting. Doctor only mentioned B12, D3, Iron and Probiotic. The rest I learned from others on this site.

Here is a link to what I read on vitamins for helping with Graves!

Hope you are feeling better soon! I know it is hard and lonely but keep posting and reach out to others. The people on here have helped me so very much!

Best wishes and prayers for a quick recovery!
