Have taken Thorne basic b complex for the 3rd day & oh my about 15 minutes later today I got this weird sensation from under my breasts to mid abdomen that felt tight & as if it was going to push upwards & out of my head.
A minute later I felt like my face was burning & it was bright red from my neck to my mid cheek bones then my arms started to burn & became itchy. I feel like I’m burning from the inside out on my face, neck, arms & top of my back.
I have not used, eaten or taken anything different than normal apart from the above so should I stop taking it? If so do I try a different brand?

I was just reading that article & was coming back to say I think I’ve found the cause 😁
I got a headache too but the redness & heat has started to reduce so definitely sounds like niacin flush.
I shall continue with it or maybe take on alternate days until this bottle is finished (can’t afford to throw away the £34 they cost me) then buy the other make to see how that is.
That's the first time I've seen a post where someone has reacted to Thorne Basic B.
As SlowDragon has said, it could be a niacin flush. Thorne Basic B contains 10mg niacin and the daily recommended amount for females is 14mg. Of course, there is niacin in food but I would have thought there was plenty of leeway with the amount in the supplement. But we are all individual and it could, of course, be something else causing a problem.
It might be an idea to leave it off for a few days and reintroduce it to see if the same thing happens.
Igennus Super B contains B3 as Nicotinamide, which is flush free Niacin, at 24mg per tablet.
My urine is also pretty much illuminated yellow 🤣 which I’ve read if getting too much b3 which is also the niacin isn’t it? So think I need a niacin free one?
You can also report the side effect (or adverse reaction, whatever you wish to call it) to the drug’s manufacturer (via E-mail if easier). Maybe they will run it by a pharmacist & offer their two cents.
It definitely took a few days for me to get used to Thorne Basic B, but my tummy issues stabilised after a few days. I didn’t get a rash though- this must have been very worrying for you. I didn’t see this listed as a side effect when I looked up the brand. How long did the adverse symptoms last?
I’m not surprised you feel cautious of taking it again. It’s cruel you’ve had an adverse reaction to something that research suggests will help improve your thyroid symptoms.
Keep posting to let us know what you decide to do & how things are going!
It scared the life out of me but now I know it’s not dangerous I’m going to try it again & see how it goes if it continues to happen I’ll not take any more! Xx
They can be bought from various places in the U.K. including Amrita Nutrition. He definitely produces the biggest selection of B vitamins and the quality is great too.
The natural form of B vitamins is Bee Pollen which Morley Robbins recommends. He’s the inventor of the Root Cause Protocol. Not tried this myself.
Well nothing else has changed at all- no different food, cleaning product, toiletries etc so it can only be the vitamin & thinking it’s every third day as maybe too much so I’m going to miss day 12’s & see what happens on day 13.
I laid off it for a few months & just starting taking it again 2 weeks ago. I take it between 12-3pm after food & I’ve not had a single rash, tightness, burning sensation at all. 😁
I used to take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
Now another issue 🤣 the capsule is a bit big for my tiny throat ... I’ve always struggling taking tablets & these take me a good while to get down. Are there any others out there that are smaller?
