CRAVING SWEETS ON T3

I added T3 to T4 several months ago. I feel much better and my FT3 has improved BUT I find that I have been constantly craving sweets , chocolate , candy, cake or anything that is sweet since adding T3. Please does anyone have this experience?

I believe cravings like that are to do with the adrenals. Maybe adding T3 has stressed the adrenals somehow?

Maybe someone else more knowledgeable than me can clarify?

Thank you suztango . I intend to get my vitamin levels checked as suggested by someone else.

Can you get your cortisol levels checked as well? A 24 hr saliva test that includes DHEA

Yes I will see if that's possible.

I once had a time I was craving chocolate and something else but can’t remember now what. Previously I’d been stable for possible 20 years do something must have recently gone wrong! I enlisted the help of Google and asked why was I craving chocolate and the other and both replies came back as magnesium being low! It was about the time the suggestion was we should test Vit D, B12, folate and Ferritin, I was also low in Vit D and folate! Our thyroid is often low on such things do get the 4 tested and optimal, post results on here if you wish. Getting things optimal made a huge difference not only to my thyroid health but everything else.

Thank You , I had thyroidectomy years ago so I am dependent on medication. I will get all those labs done soon. I have been inconsistent with taking my vitamins /supplements lately.

Difficulties with sweets are mentioned occasionally on the forum, a few regulars seem to have problems controlling their sweet cravings, so you're not alone.

I've found I craved sweet things in the past for the energy boost, when I was struggling to do things I possibly didn't have the energy for. It also occurs to me that with an improved T3 you might now need more food every day because your metabolism is faster, and your body craves sweets as a quick source of calories. Maybe you could try increasing your portion sizes of healthier food and see if it helps.

I've recently been trying to ween myself off sweets and something I've found very helpful is to make myself up a tiny bowl of nuts and dried fruit. I know dried fruit is almost as bad as sweets, but I've had such problems with sugar I'm willing to accept any progress! I've found that when I'm searching for sweets as soon as I remember I can have nuts instead I feel satisfied with that.
