I think everyone varies with weight and thyroid issues. I have Hashimotos & have lost weight even though I do eat big portions. Your dose of medication has been drastically reduced- has this been over a short time period?

Endocrinologist cut my dose dowe 6 months ago. Was on the high dose for 3 years.

All so had atrial fribulation and flutter. And had 3 ablations

I hope your Endo can help optimise your medication. Others (more knowledgable than I about blood tests) will be able to offer more advice. Really hope your weight stabilises soon.

Thanks.

Suppose a lot of people would like to be able to eat all day any thing they like and stay slim.

But I do have a physical job.

With hyperthyroidism your metabolism is very fast, which causes weight loss.

With hypothyroidism - it is the opposite and members gain weight when they haven't reached an optimum dose of thyroid hormones.

The following is from Thyroiduk.org.uk and they also have more information on their site:-

Mine is hypothyroidism. And thyrotrope adenoma

If that helps

because the metabolism is w orking overtime, people who are hyper may lose a lot of weight very quickly, and apparently be able to eat whatever they want with impunity. Be warned, this period often doesn;t last very long.

Hello Higgy

What have you been diagnosed with ?

Do you have Graves Disease ?

What have you been told is going on ?

Do you have any thyroid blood tests to share, we need the results plus the ranges for considered opinion.

Used to have atrial fribulation and flutter. Bet had 3 ablationso.

All these numbers don't meen any thing to me.

Thanks

I have no experience in this matter, I am with Graves Disease ad just thought I might be able to help you, if you were suffering with Graves.

This is so far down your post now, I doubt anyone else will see your diagnosis.

Suggest you start a new post entitled Thyroid Adenoma, and repeat your question and you will then be picked up by people who are in, or who have been in, a similar situation to yourself.

Hi I was hyper for 5 years. I lost 3 st in the first few months and was eating regularly. However, after a few months I put all the weight back and went from being a size 14 all my to size 18. I have no thyroid and have been battling to shake the weight off till today.

The classic symptoms are rapid weight loss despite non-stop eating of high calory food and increased ravenous appetite all caused by the increased rate of metabolism

There are lots more but not everybody gets them. Some even put weight on just to confuse the experts. The seriousness is that the heart rate and blood pressure soars and this puts a strain on the heart and vascular system.

I was prescribed Carbimazole in 1970 but dose unknown other than I took 12 pills a day divided into 3 parts with no Thyroxine to replace and I was overdosed as gained 2 stone in 10 weeks, had agonising cramp in every muscle of my body, except my neck muscles when I yawned when they just seized up. I also was told that I was slurring my speech and asked if I had been drinking?!

A quick appt with endo and the Carbimazole was reduced. My sister told me recently that I looked like a little barrel too as most weight went round my middle.

With the right dosage of Carbimazole everything returned to normal.

Hope it soon does for you too.
