Running out of T3

My order hasn’t arrived yet and I have one day of T3 left. I’ve already reduced my dose slightly, but how quickly will I feel the effects if I run out? And how long could I go without any?

I’m on 62.5mcg if T3.

Have you got any levothyroxine that you can supplement the shortfall for the time being? Or NDT?

Otherwise a trip to the drs would help to get a prescription.

Unfortunately I can’t get T3 on prescription on the NHS like many others in the U.K. so I’m reliant on buying online. I don’t convert T4 into T3 so never been well on Levo. So although I have a supply I’m very reluctant to take it

I think this a dangerous situation for you. I would take a small amount of levo to cover the shortfall . Going without anything could cause you to non functional. Who can afford that risk?

If Levo doesn’t help me I’m reluctant to take it but if I get desperate I might have to. But would rather see how long I can go without medication and reintroduce T3 when I get my order than introduce T4 to then come off it if it doesn’t work for me.

If you are forced to take Levo (temporarily until you find a source of T3) then make sure you take as much Selenium as takes you into it's upper range because selenium is the catalyst for the T4 to T3 reaction, you might be able to squeeze out more T3 out of the Levo than you have had experience with in the past.

Btw, best to get a blood test for your current Selenium level first just to make sure you are not causing an excess. The is true of any supplementation, first, do you need it? Are you deficient? If you are top of the range do not take it. You can get the daily recommended intake of Selenium from two Brazil nuts. If that doesn't take you into the upper range take three - but no more.

I’ve decided not to take Levo and don’t like to take selenium either. My T3 is on its way now

When will your T3 arrive and how many full days left do you have?

We are all different so maybe go by how you feel from current reduction amount. Take into account your reserve and how that’ll affect you and also build up when the new order comes.

Friend went to turkey and promised to bring some back but for one reason or another she couldn’t. So I placed an order quickly.

Last time the order came within a week but it’s over 2 weeks now. I reduced my dose by half a pill down to 50mcg a week ago and have just tomorrows dose left.

Not a great place to be and can tell I’ve reduced my dose already. So desperately waiting for the post man! Think I’d rather go without than take T4.

But as many have to order online for delivery from abroad I’m sure I’m not the first or last this will happen too.

Can you email your order company and see if they have any updates or when it was posted?

I hate to say it but it might have been lost in the post so I’m just thinking to order another pack to be on the safe side. It won’t help too have too many in the future. I know it can be expensive but might be more of a nightmare if they don’t arrive?

I hope they do tomorrow and you update this post.

Thanks that’s a good idea. They’ve said they were dispatched straight away but to allow up to 3 weeks for delivery so fingers crossed 🤞🏽

T3 was at Heathrow customs yesterday at 11am phew 😅 so hopefully they should be with me soon

Good to hear this. Could you go up to Heathrow and pick them up? I have gone to customs and imports three times to pick stuff up, Heathrow, New Jersey and San Fransisco. The service people are not very pleasant but it cuts out a lot of anxiety and waiting.
