Biotin

Hi Everyone

I eat a smoothie every morning and I add 2 tablespoons of a protein powder that has biotin in the ingredients.

Can biotin in such a small amount over extended time cause thyroid results to be incorrect?

It can. Some thyroid function testing methods use a reaction between biotin and a protein that binds it - streptavidin - to measure the thyroid hormones. Even small amounts of biotin in the blood can interfere and give wrong results. Best to stop any supplement containing biotin for a few days before going for a test. Not all tests use this, but often the lab doesn't know or care about how its tests work, so long as they do. They rely on the manufacturer to produce the tests.

Is the biotin making much difference to your hair?

Honestly I never thought about biotin and my hair since I wasn't aware that it was even in my protein powder I used, but my hair is healthy, shiny and grows pretty good so maybe it's done good.

I have had a pot for an age but got fed up with taking stuff every day, although the Hairfluence caps do include biotin.

Thanks for replying 🙂.
