Anyone having to have a echocardiogram & 72hr ECG monitor because you are on T3?

I have been on 75mcg of T3 for 10 years now, with no issues. I had a Dexa scan 3 years ago with no issues. My previous doctor retired, but the new private dr insists that I do the following test. Has anyone had to do this and what did they say about the results? He won't prescribe me any more T3 if I don't do it. :-(

I have have 6 monthly tests because I am under the care of a cardiologist and I need surgery 'sooner rather than later' but not simply because I take T3 and have no symptoms relating to that. In fact, my Cardio is far more knowledgeable about the interaction of T3 and the heart than any Endo or GP I've come across, and has absolutely no problem at all, with my being on it. If you have no symptoms, it sounds like either a money-making thing on the part of your private Endo, or that he's as sheeplike as the rest of them and believes the "T3 is dangerous stuff and will kill you" dogma.

Sorry to hear that you need surgery. That's reassuring that your Cardiologist absolutely has no problem of you being on T3. I do suspect that it is to cover the GP/Endo's back rather than for any other reason.

Sounds very much like a money-making exercise or covering his back in case of claims for negligence.

In Lancashire Liothyronine is blacklisted, except for a few instances such as during RAI, because it has never been subjected to any acceptable trials, just like NDT!

BUT Levothyroxine also has never been subjected to acceptable trials, as accepted by Professor Vanderpump himself.

It makes me wonder whether I could take out a medical negligence claim against the NHS for prescribing me Levothyroxine, which left me with hypo symptoms.

Wouldn't you rather know if there is a problem ? I'm not on T3 but previous cardiac tests show I have several heart issues which I was unaware of.

If he's anti statin and thinks T3 cures everything Im not interested but thanks anyway 😊

I have not read that he thinks that T3 cures everything, in fact I don’t think that he refers to it at all, but he is definitely anti-statin in that he does not believe that ‘low’ cholesterol is good, although he thinks that statins may have an anti-inflammatory effect. Studies show that people with ‘high’ cholesterol live longer. Perhaps you should read his blog or books and see for yourself; if you don’t believe his research then you are at liberty to argue your case with him. I really enjoyed his book ‘Doctoring Data’; quite an eye-opener. Good luck.

I have no desire to argue with anyone about statins, my husband has been on them for years after a heart attack so in the right circumstances they are vital, as for the high cholesterol bit I have no views either way, should it ever effect me I will research more at the time x

I have an Endo that thinks I should have this done also just because I was on T3 only for 2 years and now am on a combo of T4/T3. She thinks because my TSH is suppressed that I will have heart issues. Told her that I experienced nothing but palps from time to time when on T4 only and when I finally got to the right does of T3 they went away and have not returned. I think they are wacked to tell you the truth.

I agree with you guysgrams. I will reluctantly do what they say. I dont believe they will find anything wrong though. I suppose it's better to know than not.

I will not let mine take the T3 away at this point because I truly need it. If on T3 at all the TSH will be suppressed, that's what they don't seem to get.
