Hi I was diagnosed with under active thyroid this March, my TSH level was 8.22. Iv been on 50mg Levothyroxine. Please can you take a look at my bloods done this month and advise if dose should be upped. Doctors have given me 40000iu vitD to take once a week for 10 weeks, should I be taking more vitamins? My hair is falling out so much, lastly can someone tell me if I have hashimoto? Doctors have not been helpful at all just told me over the phone I was under active and prescribed me meds. Thanks in advance xx

Obviously these need testing. Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water . This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
Vitamin D 32nmol - aiming to improve to at least 80nmol and around 100nmol may be better.
Retest at end of vitamin D prescription. Likely to need ongoing maintenance dose. Trial and error what each person needs
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins
Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random
If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).
About 90% of all primary hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's.
Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances are very common too, especially gluten.
Soit's important to get TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once .
Sorry to butt in...I didn’t know that food intolerances were connected as well. I just posted something about my latest results and everything is still coming up ‘normal’ for TSH and FT4 but I have major symptoms and just noticed bloods say positive for coeliac screening. What you’re saying makes even more sense with that as an addition. Thanks for this post and reply.
Thank you so much SlowDragon i appreciate this information as I’m new to this, I only found out about this site because of very lovely lady who also has this and advised me to get help and info from hear. Iv been feeling really depressed the last few months and doctors don’t really look in to the issue properly. I will definitely get a blood test done privately XxX
Most feel better with a TSH nearer 1 and yours the top side of 2 and FT3 very low in range so under medicated. Not looked at vits etc in great detail as on my phone not finding easy to read but improving those should help levels to rise but really you need an increase in your thyroid meds.
Noticed your Ferittin is only 50 my Dermatologist says over 100 is required for new hair growth. NHS keep lowering the cut off point of all vitamins etc lately so as not to spend on referral & treatment. Probably should check Zinc levels too. All can contribute to hair loss.
