Help with blood test results please!

Thank you.

Thanks to this forum, and my GP, I realise my thyroid levels (hypo) are not normal and are an underlying cause of several miscarriages and other health problems.

I’ve more to come (full thyroid and autoimmune antibodies etc). First lot through, are these levels normal? Ive been on high dose folate for months as we’ll TTC once my levels are under control. Other counts seem normal (haemoglobin 13.7).

Ferritin is very low, it's recommended to be half way through range. With your result I'd be asking for a full blood count and iron panel to see if there was iron deficiency anaemia.

To complete the core nutrient tests you really need Vit D testing as well.

Your thyroid retest should be 6 weeks after starting Levo and for thyroid tests we always advise:

* Book the first appointment of the morning, or with private tests at home no later than 9am. This is because TSH is highest early morning and lowers throughout the day. If we are looking for a diagnosis of hypothyroidism, or looking for an increase in dose or to avoid a reduction then we need TSH to be as high as possible.

* Fast overnight - have your evening meal/supper as normal the night before but delay breakfast on the day of the test and drink water only until after the blood draw. Eating may lower TSH, caffeine containing drinks affect TSH.

* If taking thyroid hormone replacement, last dose of Levo should be 24 hours before blood draw, if taking NDT or T3 then last dose should be 8-12 hours before blood draw. Adjust timing the day before if necessary. This avoids measuring hormone levels at their peak after ingestion of hormone replacement. Take your thyroid meds after the blood draw. Taking your dose too close to the blood draw will give false high results, leaving any longer gap will give false low results.

* If you take Biotin or a B Complex containing Biotin (B7), leave this off for 7 days before any blood test. This is because if Biotin is used in the testing procedure it can give false results (both Medichecks and Blue Horizon advise to leave Biotin/B Complex off).

These are patient to patient tips which we don't discuss with doctors or phlebotomists.

Thank you SeasideSusie i did all of those things before my test (apart from B vits) and the other recommended results will be with my doctor before the end of the week.

I’m concerned as I am bleeding at 9dpo each cycle, the stop and then my period arrives a week later. I’m concerned this could by thyroid related.

Also, looking at my bloods so far, eosinophils are 0.0 below range, which I understand means high cortisol levels (I didn’t test for that).

From what I've read, for Cushings Disease to be suspected, the eosinophil count would be abnormally low. It can also be abnormally low due to intoxication from alcohol. Low eosinophil counts may also be due to the time of day. Under normal conditions, eosinophil counts are lowest in the morning and highest in the evening.

Low levels of eosinophils are not usually of concern unless other white cell counts are also abnormally low, what were the other results of the white cell count within your full blood count?

If your NHS range is anything like mine then it's 0.0 - 4.0 so in that case you would be in the normal range. Abnormally low would mean below range I believe. What is your reference range?

My eosinophil count tends to come back 0.2 or 0.3, I've had 6 full blood counts within the last 18 months.

Thanks. My level is 0.0, the range is 0.04-0.4. Two weeks ago, however, my levels were 0.1, so better.

Neutrophils 2.3 (range 2-7.5)

Lymphocytes 1.8 (1.5-4)

Monocytes 0.4 (0.2-0.8)

Basophils 0 (0-0.1)

I'm not an expert but from what I've read and quoted here, your other results within the white blood cell count aren't a problem so I doubt it's anything to do with Cushings. Did your GP say anything? If you're worried you could always tell him of your concern and ask for it to be repeated in a few weeks.
