It is obviously affecting my mobility, or I wouldn't be applying for it.
It affects where I go for buying my food as I need to get as close as possible to the shops I use.I am also someone who likes personal contact with people rather than having to live my life " On Line" .
My local shopping area has now lost 3 banks.I actually miss being able to go into my bank to discuss needs.I was recognised with a smile and "How are you today "? as well as being able to park near by. Still, that's modern progress for you and I think there will be a lot of elderly people will suffer for it .
You’re automatically eligible for a Blue Badge if you:
-are registered as blind
-get the higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) - check your decision letter if you're not sure
get War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement
-received a lump sum payment as part of the Armed Forces Compensation scheme (tariffs 1 to 8), and have been certified as having a permanent and substantial disability
If you get Personal Independence Payments (PIP)
You’re automatically eligible for a Blue Badge if you either:
-scored 8 points or more in the ‘moving around’ area of your PIP assessment
-scored 10 points in the ‘planning and following journeys’ area of your PIP assessment and were put in category ‘E’ - this means your stress, anxiety or other mental health issue stops you leaving the house. Check your PIP decision letter if you’re not sure.
If you're not automatically eligible
You can still get a badge if:
-you have long term problems with walking - including problems caused by stress, anxiety or other mental health issues
-you have severe problems using both your arms
-you're applying on behalf of a child aged over 2 who has problems walking, or a child under 3 who needs to be close to a vehicle because of a health condition
So as fibrolinda says, where you don't meet the other criteria, it depends upon mobility, not the condition that causes the mobility problem.
I understand what you're saying. I had a long conversation with a friend the other evening who was insisting that of course I would be eligible for a blue badge; and whilst I absolutely appreciate her concern for me, her experience and knowledge acquired as a carer employed by the Council to assist people in claiming what ever benefits they might be entitled to, came to an end when she retired 10 years ago, and things are very much different now.
But this blue badge change can equally work for or against you, so it is at least worth applying. 🙂
