Are Almonds Good For Hypothyroidism Or Not? Conflicting Information 🤔

Hi folks!

Can anyone shed any light on whether almonds are ok to have with Hypothyroidism? I am considering trying dairy free for a while to see if my chronic sinus issues can be alleviated.

After trying all the dairy free milks, bar soya and coconut milk (I am intolerant to coconut), the only one I can stomach is almond milk. I have however, read conflicting information on almonds and Hypothyroidism. Several articles say they contribute to a healthy thyroid diet, others say they are goitragens and should be avoided. I'm confused and don't want mess up my thyroid levels.

Please, if anyone can shed any light, I'd be grateful.

Thanks!

Well, they are goitrogens, but so what. I don't think you could possibly eat enough to affect your thyroid - and there's not much almond in almond milk! Besides, you're on thyroid hormone replacement, so you're not reliant on your thyroid anymore.

They wouldn't be 'good for thyroid' per se, but some of the nutrients they contain would be useful for general good health.

Almonds are good for calcium. That's good news for bones I would have thought.

I thought it was selenium, so if there's calcium too, that's even better. I'm not totally convinced whether I should have it all the time if almonds are thyroid inhibiting in larger quantities. I think I might take a dairy intolerance test which is offered at our local pharmacy.
