Hi! Unfortunately I missed this post and therefore the programme link.

One thought crossed my mind in the midst of the issue...if we are the ‘addicts’ doesn’t that make the GPs and Endos the ‘dealers’? Surely then they should be brought before the courts and vilified instead of the people that are ‘abused’ by those that have doled out pills and potions without care.

My last visit with my Endo ended with him saying I was depressed and he would happily give me antidepressants! As he has no idea about my mental health (currently frustrated and frightened, but NOT depressed!) surely he should at least have offered an appointment with a qualified person instead of misdiagnosing and throwing pills at me??? As he is primarily a diabetes specialist my thoughts are he has reached the end of the checklist he was given for thyroid patients and as I don’t agree with him I must be depressed!

Thank heavens for this forum and the sane responses I know I can rely on!

There is a simple test that can be done to determine if he has a patient with depression /anxiety it's the HAD scale . Very easy even an endo could do it. He shouldn't be offering antidepressants unless there is clinical justification. Some are used for pain management. But he could actually be used for giving someone a diagnosis of a mental health condition if it's wrong. He may think twice if you say you are asking the advice of the gmc. They are very helpful we had a hospital Dr who changed address and gp because my husband was admitted to a hospital outside of area despite not being given permission. Gmc took it very seriously as an indication of acting against consent so they were withdrawn from the case and got their wrist slapped. Just in case something more serious was done without consent.
