Hi, I’ve recently had a medichecks blood test which showed I was quite a bit over range on my ferritin levels. I had to go to the doc’s last week on another matter, but questioned this. She repeated the test along with folate(low), and also B12
569( 120-900) . However, the ferritin came back as106(15-300), not over like the medichecks one. Is this result ok please?
Also,a question for Seaside Susie. I have been taking Solgar multi b, thinking they were good. However, when I was looking at the contents, it states folic acid, which I am sureIhave seen on here that it should be folate. Which one should I buy please that contains folate?
My HbA1c was 34 (20-42). Is this ok, or”could do better” ?
Thank you in advance.

For females I've seen that a good level is 100-130 and for males 150.
Did you have any iron rich food in the week before the Medichecks test - liver, liver pate, black pudding, etc? That could have given a high ferritin result.
How low was your folate level? If it was below range your GP should sort it out. If it was low in range you could take a good B Complex.

I've got on very well with Thorne Basic B. Another one often recommended here is Igennus Super B.

Yes, doctors give folic acid. Some people do OK with that and their bodies convert it well to the active form, but some need the converted bioavailable form which is methylfolate.
Another thought, infection or inflammation can raise ferritin, could something have been brewing, or maybe you were getting over something, at the time of your Medichecks test to give you a high result at that time?
Hi, I have haemochromatisis, iron overload. When I was diagnosed my ferritin was a bit elevated, but on repeat it was within range. However, luckily my GP had also done a genetic test and it came back positive with the 2 faulty genes. Ferritin can be elevated due to inflammation and if the test was non fasting. Haemochromatosis is the most common genetic condition and perhaps worthwhile having a look at the symptoms n having a full iron panel done. Many of us have thyroid conditions as well. Good luck
