Hi All, something I have wondered for a while now.....the general known advice is not to take Thyroid meds near near tea or coffee. Is it the caffeine that interferes with the meds, or the beverage itself? Would decaf be ok? Thanks Mandy

Tea/Coffee & Caffeine
It's the caffeine that affects absorption of thyroid meds.
According to this article
healthline.com/nutrition/ca...
decaff coffee isn't completely free of caffeine, it contains up to 7 mg of caffeine, whereas a cup of regular coffee provides 70–140 mg.
I only have one cup of decaff coffee per day (on rare occasions two) and I have it mid-morning which is possibly 5 hours or so after my thyroid meds which I take around 5-6am normally.
Thank you. I only have decaf coffee now for a couple of years. Generally with coconut milk. Also decaf tea only. If on the rare occasion I forget to ask for decaf when I’m out.......it’s pretty quick and I get a hot flush!! My body’s way of telling me it doesn’t like it. It’s the same with alcohol so I’m now teetotal.......just not worth the side affects I get. Thanks for your reply 👍
