Repeat peracription question

Hi all, im on Levothyroxine and have found that the TEVA brand works best for me. I spoke with my GP who marked down on the perscription that TEVA is recommended. But my selected Pharmacy sometimes has problems getting stock.

What i want to do is cancel the online repeat perscriptions and collect my green slip from the GP and check out multiple Pharmacys.

Now my question is...can a gp do seperate slips for my medications ie...a slip for 100mg levo...a slip for 50mg levo and a slip for 25mg levo. What i find is one place will have one of what i need and not the other. If i get them on seperate slips i can get them from whoever has them in stock and dont mind going around to get them.

Cheers

I think that's a question you'll have to ask your surgery, they're all different in how they do things.

Hi evinX.

I got my prescription changed to Teva all of a sudden, didn't know til picked up at chemists one day! My Lalys always seem to get for me,in last 6 months.

You can order just 100mcg Levothyroxine

Then few days later order 50mcg

Then few days later order 25mcg

Then Go along to surgery and pick up all three prescriptions

That's what I do when ordering my T3 and Levothyroxine

That way I can take each prescription separately if need be

Hi yes the g.p can do scripts for each strench.

Also you will probably find the teva brand at most inderpentant pharmacey as they use a number of suppiers.

Ask them to order a few extra in for you.

They would be greatful for your custom.

Ok ill get that done when they are open for each script. Im making a list of all the pharmacies in my town and will visit each one if i have to

If you know what mcg of Teva your local pharmacies generally get, you can then ask you gp to make out a prescription for your dosage in that amount. For instance I find I am better on Mecury pharma (t4). Boots are the only pharmacy that seem to do it, near me; but they only do it in 25mcg tablets. I take 75 a day; so I asked my gp to request Mecury please & do prescription in 25’s. He was happy to do it. Before this pharmacy would have to give me the 50 mcg in some other brand.

Hi Xanthi. Just a bit of information for you, my local pharmacy is able to get Mecury Levo in 25,50 and 100’s .

Yes, I take 75 a day though so they wouldn’t give me those. I imagine that they may well come in 50’s too; which would make life easier, but Boots don’t have them. Feel lucky to get 25’s 🙄

Hi Pmb57, That’s interesting. Is it an independent chemist or a chain?

It’s an independent pharmacy. The pharmacist is pretty good in that he knows I don’t like Teva and that I want the same brand for all my pills. I am a bit naughty as my prescriptions don’t go automatically to the pharmacy. I still collect a prescription from my doctors, just in case he doesn’t have all the same brand, I ask before I hand my prescription over.

I live in a large village and we have 3 large independent pharmacies and in the nearest town a Boots and couple of other pharmacies so competition is high for prescriptions.

Thanks for the info Pmb57, I may ask Boots (the only place I can currently get Mecury) if they could get them, & if not try an independent.

Glad to hear people asking for teva

Hi. if You speak to your chosen pharmacy they will usually get your preferred brand.

This may not still be relevant but pharmacies received payment from the NHS per script. If there are two items on the script they will only receive one payment, therefore they prefer one item per script.

Thats something new ive learnt. Hope my gp receptionists dont kick up a fuss for me requesting seperate scripts. And i also have to request the slips again as i refused the different meds offered by the pharmacy yesterday.
