As almost all salt in the uk and Europe is iodised obviously not. Lack of iodine in some parts of the world leads to goitre and hypothyroidism. It is also true that once on levothyroxine most of your daily iodine requirements are fulfilled by the levothyroxine. Over supplementing with iodine can also cause problems.
It may do but it is not a good sign. Iodine can act on your thyroid to upset its production of hormone. That is, to reduce the production of the active part, T3. If you are iodine sufficient naturally from diet, do not add any more.
If depends what you mean by "thyroid". If you have an iodine deficiency, adding iodine would make your thyroid hormones rise (and TSH fall) and possibly get rid of a goitre (iodine deficiency is not common in the UK). If you do not, it would make your thyroid hormones (esp T3) fall. Iodine was used as a treatment for an overactive thyroid in times gone by.
What do you mean by 'make your thyroid go down'? Are you hyperthyroid and want to reduce your levels?
