Hi there SlowDragon,

As you will see,I have just posted the Batch Info,so will be interested to see whether you get the same.

I have increased muscular pain so am looking for any possible clue to solving my problem. My GP has just prescribed a low dose of Amitriptiline which he says they use for Fibromyalgia, but may take a few weeks befor feeling the benefit.

It has had the name Iraksin for a long time, at least from the 2017 document - but, obviously, not on the foil.

Follow this link and click on Iraksin - view the PDF:

Does this naming (Iraksin) make it a branded product, rather than generic liothyronine?

An excellent question.

I think it ends up in the same situation as Mercury Pharma Liothyronine/Tertroxin. Has a sort-of brand name documented (see Patient Information Leaflets) but supplied as a generic.

But I could be wrong!

I guess it might be possible for Iraksin to be specifically prescribed but from what we know of computerised systems, would need to be a write-in product.

Being a bit of a cynic, I was thinking it more likely to have something to do with future price gouging than prescription writing.

I suspect that is very much part of their plan. With a name, they have a choice how to market.

Mind, I do find their choice of name very odd.

Have looked through both patient leaflets and there is no difference in contents just Iraksin inserted throughout in place of Liothyronine Sodium. The Lio leaflet last revised May2017 .....the Iraksin in August 2017.

Thanks helvella and Red Apple. It 's feeling like there's a sudden downturn and anything goes!

I've also had 28 tablets of Mercury Pharma Liothyronine taken from the original sealed white container and given to me in a brown bottle with a damaged patient leaflet just put in the Pharmacist's paper bag! When I asked about it I was told it's how it came from the supplier !! I had a personal interview with the pharmacist when she gave me Teva whichI rejected and I just think she's reacting to the fact that I question things with her.TUK has helped us stand up for ourselves.

I have been getting my meds from the same pharmacy beneath my surgery for at least 17 years with no problems but the latest pharmacist has been less than impressive. I will regretfully have to go elsewhere.

Don't regret going elsewhere, find yourself an independent Pharmacy, they are usually far more helpful as their business depends on it 😊

That's what is upsetting....I am with an independent pharmacy. The last pharmacist was fine .However, he has retired and the lady who I speak to now is totally different. Also,I am able to park near by and going elsewhere is going to cause more parking and walking problems.......That's life!!..........

That's a shame, when a small independent Pharmacy opened next door to the larger of two Lloyds in our town everyone thought it was a stupid idea but, as it happens, it was a brilliant move and when Lloyds can't oblige, you just walk next door, even the girls in Lloyds just say "try next door" 😊

Yes,I have been getting my general prescriptions at that pharmacy for over 40+ years

and my thyroid meds since 2002.However,I think I will persevere. It is so convenient because my surgery is above and repeat prescriptions get sent down once they are seen by the GP,to be picked up after 48 hrs. If there are any queries it is easy to go back up in the lift to reception. Now,in my 70s,all that helps..

The situation with your two pharmacies sounds ideal.Long may that last 😊

I've just been told by the eejits at Boots that Morningside lio is not available ( was palmed off with a temporary tub of Mercury Pharma ) and I'll have to wait at least 5 days. I'm betting there's been a change of name or something. Thanks for the info, very useful.
