Can anyone tell me if levothyroxine is made in the uk as I am worried that we won’t be able to get our medicines after we leave the eu.
Brexit: Can anyone tell me if levothyroxine is... - Thyroid UK
Brexit
Of course it is made in the UK. Most of our medicines are manufactured in the UK or in countries around the world. Every prescription medicine states where it is manufactured, either on the packaging or on the patient information leaflet.
Sorry I didn’t mean to sound stupid but everyone is saying we won’t be able to get our medicines
I don't think you're being silly, it's a legitimate worry!
I think most will be ok, there's maybe a slight risk (e.g. manufacturers may struggle to get ingredients) but they've been stockpiling for ages, and they've had an extra 3 months to sort supplies. It's more likely going to be ok than not though.
It's just a few medicines that are exclusively manufactured in the EU. Some medicines are manufactured eleswhere and distributed via a hub (e.g. Amsterdam), this is done for efficiency and tax avoidance. Medicines manufactured in the rest of the world that are distributed via the EU would go to the UK via a customs warehouse or be shipped direct to the UK in future. The same issues will apply to medicines manufactured in the UK and exported to the EU. This all assumes we leave without a deal and the EU decides it wants a system of customs duty on imports from the UK.
Thank you I really appreciate it I feel a bit better now lol I’ve been so ill with my thyroid I worry that it’s going to go wrong again. Thanks again.
