I used to get a spasm/cramp on left front of neck within a minute of swallowing NDT, which I have now stopped taking. But now on Levo I get neck/thyroid? pain later in day, since I have increased dose to 100. So I have split dose and take less some days.
Also if I have one coffee in morning, about 4 hours ,after levo, I get neck/thyroid pain, straightaway. This did not happen on lower dose.
Has any one else had this problem?

Yes, took with glass water on waking and eat hour later. The sharp pain was with last NDT, every time within minute, felt like pain was not throat, more like spasm. Only occurred with that one, not others. Now on levo and pain has moved to thyroid/front of neck and other side, but is in evening and I took the Levo in morning.
Also if I take one coffee pain in thyroid, within minutes.
I'm sorry you have concurring pain with your replacement hormones. I have read that if we think that the pill may be causing problems, to take one anti-histamine one hour before it, and if symptoms are relieved to change to another make.
Taking coffee within a short time of taking thyroid hormones reduces the activity:-
"Badness associated with high cortisol.
"Thyroid hormone" in your body consists of two main players: T4 and T3. T4 is the lame duck storage hormone, and you need to make it into T3 to see some action. T3 is the biological go-getter and boosts metabolism, keeps your weight on the easeful side of town, and keeps your mood in the "joy" position. High cortisol, such as from a stressed-out life, blocks production of T3. Hijacked. Result? Thyropause.
And you may not know it because few docs check your T3. They obsessively check your Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), which may or may not reflect the cortisol hijack of your thyroid hormones.
All about absorption.
Do you take thyroid medication? Judging from my integrative medicine practice, I believe we have an epidemic of underfunctioning thyroid on our hands.
If you are already on thyroid hormone, a new study from the journal Thyroid may affect your use of coffee in the morning (hopefully you've joined our cleanse virtually and are either off or almost weaned off of the junk by now). According to the recent article, in folks who consume coffee at the time of taking their thyroid medication, we see a 25-57 percent drop in T4, one of the thyroid hormones, compared to non-coffee drinkers. This adverse effect persists for up to one hour.
Drinking coffee within 60 minutes of taking your thyroid hormone reduces absorption.
Yes Shaws I did give up the NDT that caused the sharp spasm, minute after swallowing, also did not lower TSH much as was 3.56, also put on a lot of weight on it. I read that you tried the two thai ones, but they did not work for you. Could I ask how you decided this and how long you gave it?
As I am now so confused as to cause of problem, is it me or those NDT? As old Nature throid worked so well. Nothing else seems to work.
I only have one small coffee, 3 - 4 hours after levo. But it is now so painful to thyroid I will try without.
I have bought salvia and DHEA test over 2 months ago, but as they do not want to receive it Friday or Saturaday, and I have been faint, not sleeping due to chest infection, etc lately I thought it best to wait until stronger - steady, not crashing. So better check if it has expiry date?
My FT3 was measured by GP 4.1 (3.10 - 6.80)
FT4 15 (12.00 - 22)
TSH 6 (0.3 - 4.2)
Told by GP I was thus in range. I argued for increase in levo, she said on the weekend, I disagreed we settled on 5 days on 100 and 2 on 75 levo. But I did post and decided to try 7 days at 100, but am not managing at moment due to onset of thyroid pain. However at the moment I am pessimistic as to this increase in levo improving symptoms.
I also read that you recommended Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for Menopause symptoms. Do you think this could help with weight and overheating problems?
As at the moment I do not know whether to just ask again for Endo referral, as GPs did not want to increase levo and I am so tired of battling with them every time, or whether to also try for menopause referral. Guess that is to optimistic as I'd be lucky to get one!
The neck pain thing is just your pituitary whacking your thyroid gland and telling it to make more T4 or possibly T3. But the poor old thyroid is buggered and cant do it, so it just hurts. For me it's a transient thing, on NDT my thyroid hurts 2 hours before my next scheduled dose (3 x per day) and on Levo it just means I don't have enough.
