Any ideas please as to why I have Low/Normal Calcium blood levels despite taking 2.8g of calcium daily?

I have Hashi's

As you are aware, the daily recommended calcium intake is 1.2 g daily.

However, since I am vegan I have always supplemented calcium to the tune of 2.8g daily.

This is because, despite the high intake, my calcium blood levels on 2.8g daily have always been either Low or Normal

Some examples of my Calcium blood levels, on 2.8g daily

14/3/13 - calcium 2.31, corrected calcium 2.37 (2.12-2.52) Bluecrest

15/5/16 - calcium 2.32, corrected calcium 2.30 (2.20-2.60) nhs

16/5/17 - calcium 2.30, corrected calcium 2.28 (2.20-2.60) NHS

2/7/18 - Calcium 2.35, corrected calcium 2.29 (2.20-2.60) Bluecrest

4/4/19 - Calcium 2.43, corrected calcium 2.40 (2.20-2.60) Clementine Churchill

I have taken K2 daily since 2 years ago, since my I found out that it takes the calcium away from the blood

So, any ideas please why the levels are Low/Normal despite more than double the recommended intake?

Hi there - Oh PLEASE be very careful with calcium - on looking at your levels they aren't low at all but bottom of range which is not a deficiency state as such - Calcium has to be respected and taking more does not necessarily mean it will bring the levels up - it might cause the parathyroid gland to be affected by its feedback loop - the more you take the more the parathyroid will shut down.

Unless I'm missing something it sounds that the K2 is doing what it should do. Before I started supplementsxmy calcium level was half way through the range. When I was told to take Vit D my calcium levels shot up to over the range. Then I learn about the co factors of K2 and Magnesium so I added those to my supplements and my calcium lecelwas a k to where it used to be, halfway in the range. Remember the test is only testing the calcium in your blood and not the full amount in your body.

Your calcium has been fine since 2013. You don't want lots of calcium in your blood (or your heart and arteries), you want it in your bones and teeth.

Your calcium is fine, you shouldn't try to raise what is probably your set level, it's where your body wants it to be. Calcium shouldn't be high in range as that indicates a potential problem.

I certainly don't want to increase my calcium levels

I Just wanted to know why it takes me more than double the recommended dose of 1g just to be in range ?

Probably because the recommended intake is nothing more than the best guess of a group of people.
