Thyroidectomy?

Hi all— I have Hashimotos, hypothyroidism, and about 9 nodules on my thyroid, and I’m on 100mcg of levo. One my my nodules is indeterminable and came back suspicious from genetic testing such that I have a 50% chance of having thyroid cancer. Two endocrinologists have recommended I have a thyroidectomy. And even with all of these signals I am resistant to surgery. I’m wondering what are the factors that you would consider in this decision? Do people with Hashimotos ever feel better after a thyroidectomy? What will I miss out on by not having g a thyroid? I am not concerned about being on medication forever; I already feel I will be. Looking for your thoughts and anyone with Hashimotos who has had experience with a thyroidectomy. I am very nervous to agree to surgery!

Thyroidectomy 3 years ago Pap cancer. My thyroidectomy was easy and my scar is hardly noticeable but I struggle everyday with horrible pains and I'm told not related to not having a thyroid, I have hard time believing that since I didnt have these pains prior to removal and the medication battles unless your lucky will drive you bananas as you try to find your normal.

I would certainly recommend a complete thyroid panel prior to thyroid removal even if you pay for it on your own. I wished I had done this so I had reference points for me.

I thought you had no quality of life now or have your feelings changed? I just read your post of three months ago.

I have felt great since starting medication with 95% very good days and a few days of fatigue and symptoms if I’m not careful

That sounds good, I would only get my thyroid removed if it was cancerous. When I first saw a Consultant Endo he wanted me to get it removed before I had even tried any treatment. He said we can either treat you with drugs which can be tricky or have it removed or treat it with radioactive iodine and then you will be on thyroxine for rest of your life. I am so glad I decided against removal.

I am in exactly the same position meghans and don't know what to do. I only have half a thyroid left anyway but have the same questions as you.
