Which blood test?

Hello, I’d like to ask your advice as to which blood test to get - blue horizon 11 or medichecks thyroid ultra-vit? They are very similar however there are some differences, namely, B12 active and inactive. Other differences are the inflammation marker and C reactive protein. I’m keeping really well thanks to reading this forum apart from acid reflux. With this in mind what would be the best blood test to have? TIA

Purely your choice. This is the information I give when suggesting one of these tests:

Medichecks Thyroid Check ULTRAVIT medichecks.com/thyroid-func... You can use code THYROIDUK for a 10% discount on any test not on special offer

or

Blue Horizon Thyroid Check PLUS ELEVEN bluehorizonmedicals.co.uk/t...

Both tests include the full thyroid and vitamin panel. They are basically the same test but with the following small differences:

For the fingerprick test, Blue Horizon requires 1 x microtainer of blood (0.8ml), Medichecks requires 2 x microtainers (total 1.6ml)

Blue Horizon includes Total T4 (can be useful but not essential). Medichecks doesn't include this test.

B12 - Blue Horizon does Serum B12. Medichecks does Active B12.

Serum B12 shows the total B12 in the blood. Active B12 shows what's available to be taken up by the cells. You can have a reasonable level of Serum B12 but a poor level of Active B12. (Personally, I would go for the Active B12 test.)

Whichever test you decide, if you take a B Complex containing Biotin, or Biotin as a standalone supplement, leave this off for 7 days before doing the test as it can give false results when biotin is used in the testing procedure (Medichecks confirmed they do, and as Blue Horizon sometimes uses the same lab then I imagine it's prudent to leave it off for a BH test as well).

Thank you so much for your very comprehensive reply. I’ll get the medichecks one so I can see what is going on with B12 in the cells. Thanks again!

The Active B12 test is not what B12 is in the cells, that can't be tested, they can only test what's in the blood. It tests what's available to be taken up by the cells.

Hi Seaside Susie, please can I ask you a favour? I posted some results yesterday and I haven’t had a response. I also posted something a few days ago and the same thing happened. I can’t see my posts on the forum. I wondered if you could see them? Sorry to bother you when I know you’re so busy. Thank you
