I'm currently not gluten free but have tried it in the past and am a bit unsure of the effects. It seems like I lose some weight when gluten free... What are the benefits of that you can feel when going gluten free?

Well, I went gluten free five years ago after I developed inflammatory arthritis which was yet another autoimmune condition to add to my list.
I would say the first thing I noticed because I do regular home fingerpick blood tests, was that my thyroid antibodies started to go down as did my CRP.
In general I’d say my arthritis has settled while on the minimum treatment only topped up with some paracetamol on an as and when basis which is good for me.
My irritable bowel has definitely improved, gut feels so much better and I no longer lurch from diarrhoea to being constipated or ‘go’ to the loo many times during the day.

For me, going gluten free cleared up some long unexplained gut issues. And I now can’t tolerate gluten at all without getting some kind of reaction (again, mostly guts related but it also gives me extreme brain fogginess).
The positive effects can be invisible too ! Gluten can adhere to the gut lining and cause inflammation leading to damage. As we know inflammation in the gut is the driving mechanism for so many health issues - including the heart and the brain ...
I’ve been gf since February. I think clearer, my stomach feels more comfortable and energy levels improved.
