High FT4 normal TSH

Hello

So , I got my results printed. They have not tested FT3. Any advice on these results would be great as I'm in early pregnancy and I know this stage important for correct thyroid function for the developing fetus. Would these results explain hair falling out too ? Unfortunately this is what I have to go on until 4 weeks time until they test again. GP advised not to decrease dose keep it the same as thyroid demand increases in early pregnancy . Your thoughts ?

I don't know much about pregnancy when hypo, except that the TSH should be under 2 - which I've always thought somewhat misleading, but still. Your FT4 is only slightly over-range. Not enough to make any difference to anything, I would have thought. But, most people would want their TSH a bit lower than that. However, it's fine for pregnancy, I believe. What's probably happening is that you aren't converting very well, which might make you feel hypo, but won't affect the baby. It's the T4 that crosses the blood/placenta barrier, and you have plenty of that. :)

Okay thanks for your reply good to know. Do you think these levels can cause hair falling out ?

OK, so you took your levo three hours before the test. That would have a massive effect on your FT4, so it's not really that high. I think you need the test done again to find out your real levels.

The TSH would not be affected by taking your levo. That is affected by the time of the blood draw. What time was it?

All sorts of things can make hair fall out. The levo itself could make your hair fall out temporarily - how long have you been taking it? Have you had your ferritin tested? If that's low, it will definitely make your hair fall out. :)

I took the test at 9:40 am. Thanks for the great info :)

Well, 9.30 wouldn't be too bad, but the earlier it is, the higher the TSH. And, as doctors only tend to look at the TSH, we need it as high as we can get it. :)

Orangepie1, did you take your Levo before the blood test? If so, how many hours before?

Yes I did . It was 3 hours before . Does this affect results?

Yes it does - it’ll make your T4 levels look rather higher than they actually are.
