Hashimotos - will T3 help

Hi all,

I have my results back and am seeking advice. I have been on levo for 3 years but am seeing no improvement. My symptoms are constant fatigue and my weight is piling on, no matter what I try. I currently take 75mcgs levo.

I am diagnosed with hashimotos and no, do not have a Vit B12 deficiency, this has also been tested for.

My GP seems totally unwilling to help. I bought T3 tablets in Crete last month and am considering taking them. My quality of life is terrible and my weight gain is making me incredibly depressed. Something has to give.

Any advice/suggestions welcome!

Your FT3 result looks good :-) Folate - Ferritin - VitD - how are they ? Are you gluten free - ? That can sometimes help fatigue I have read.

Your FT4 is 66% through range and your FT3 is 70.27% through range, you have excellent conversion of T4 to T3 and the addition of T3 is not indicated.

You say you do not have B12 deficiency, but what are your results, with reference ranges, for

Vit D

B12

Folate

Ferritin

It's important that these nutrient levels are optimal for thyroid hormone to work properly, low levels can bring symptoms of their own.

Did you not do the Medichecks ULTRAVIT test as suggested by SlowDragon in your previous thread

As for the Hashi's, some members have found that adopting a strict gluten free diet can help, although there is no guarantee.

Gluten contains gliadin (a protein) which is thought to trigger autoimmune attacks so eliminating gluten can help reduce these attacks.

You don't need to be gluten sensitive or have Coeliac disease for a gluten free diet to help.

Supplementing with selenium l-selenomethionine 200mcg daily can also help reduce the antibodies, as can keeping TSH suppressed.

Hashi's and gut absorption problems tend to go hand in hand and can very often result in low nutrient levels or deficiencies, so it's essential to get those tested if not already done.

Surviving on statutory maternity pay, finding £100 for the test suggested is a little difficult at the moment.

Well, its certainly not a conversion problem that you have so your next step will be to test the nutrients. You could ask your GP to do them.

If I were you, I would try an increase in levo, first. You do still have a little room to increase.
