Why are doctors stopping women taking thyroid pills that cost just pennies?

Article in today's Daily Mail "Why are doctors trying to stop women taking thyroid pills that cost just pennies?" - Good question. The cynic in me suspects the reasons for doctor denial towards thyroid treatment goes much deeper than TSH levels and little proof that drugs like Levo have little to effect. One in five Britons (according to this article) suffer underactive thyroid, yet there has been little to no improvement in decades despite a rise in clinical diagnosis. Why are the medical authorities surpressing understanding, diagnosing or treating?

GPs brainwashed by the BP reps, perhaps?

My Partner went to the GP simply for an over 70's health check up. He had no symptoms at all.

He was given a blood test which read TSH with a reading of 19 which was high and together with very high antibodies suggested Hashimoto's.

He was then started on Levo at 25 mcg and has had his dosage increased to 100 mcg his last reading at 75 mcg Levo was TSH 4. He still has no symptoms.

There are a few good GP's but they are few and far between, these are mostly older and are leaving in droves.

That just proves how there are no standardised range of symptoms and therefor tests are often inaccurate. Yet someone else could have the same levels as your hubby and be dead on their feet.
