I have just been diagnosed as having a huge fibroid in my womb, I have been reading a lot of posts on a Facebook page to help women, a lot of these women say there is a connection between the two having thyroid issues and fibroids.

Fibroid and under active thyroid

There probably is. I had both.

Are you adequately treated for your hypothyroidism?
Getting FULL Thyroid and vitamin testing is essential
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
Is this how you do your tests?
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random
Medichecks currently have an offer on until end of May - 20% off
There's been some work looking at the association between thyroid nodules, and fibroids; the thinking being that the connection is oestrogen if I remember correctly. There was also a Viennese study in 2014 that looked at 215 infertile women who had had gynae surgery, and found that women of African heritage were more likely to have fibroids; women with underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) were 3 times as likely to have fibroids as women without hypothyroidism; & larger fibroids were found in women with hypothyroidism than in those women without hypothyroidism. But given how common are fibroids - the NHS says they affect 1 in 3 women I think, and in the US the numbers are 70% white and 80% black women will have them - and how commonly those with thyroid disorders are women, the odds of a women having both conditions must in any case, be relatively high even without associative factors I would have thought. Having said that, a friend of mine suffered horribly for years with a multiplicity of large fibroids, and has never had any thyroid issues.
Hi its me again, been suffering rather a lot with fibroid so have not felt like posting. Still waiting for hysterectomy, I have had surgery many years ago for endometritis so god knows what they will find. My doctors or endrincologist will not test for FT3 full stop apparently because I have been taking levothyroxine all my life it will give a false reading, s. I am still suffering with a blood disorder and anaemic which they say is cytopenia, but cannot find a reason for it despite having my bone marrow checked, which they say is fine. I have had blood in my urine for 3years which all I can think is due to the fibroid. Be interesting to see what happens once the fibroid is out and whether my blood disorder strangely disappears. Oh and doctors in uk do not test for vitamin problems, they don't believe they cause problems. All in all I am not having a great time of it at mo.
