Hi
I have been looking into getting a thyroid ultrasound after toying with the idea for a long time. I would like to know whether or not I definitely have hashimoto's - I have had antibodies tested many many times and they are always negative. I definitely have Grave's though (confirmed with TSI test) and therefore endo suspects I have hashis too which seems likely.
Anyhow, I contacted a scan provider recommended by someone on HU in London, and they were not sure if they could do it without a referral, they asked me to send them all the details and they would check with their clinical team. So I sent them all the above, and their response was they could not scan me because "our neck scan will not be suitable, as our scans are first line scans".
Sounds like BS to me (although maybe I am just overly cynical when it comes to anyone in healthcare!) but does anyone know what they could be talking about. Surely a thyroid scan would not differ depending on whether you are seeking a diagnosis or have already been diagnosed (what else could they mean by "first line"? I have asked them but they have not replied (funnily enough). If it's not BS then is there a particular scan I should be looking for?
Thanks all!
