Rising TSH??

Hey all.... for the past six months my TSH has been rising in astronomical amounts. I’ve been on compounded T4 to which my old, and now new endo have feel is not consistent. However, it has jumped from. 8-20 in two weeks and I’m FREAKED OUT. Everything else appears ok except my pituitary hormone can be right above range yet no one finds this a cause for alarm. I’ve been on 150 of T4 and just switched to liquid Tirosint 150. Has anyone experienced this and if so, what can I do? Ironically, I had mono back on the Fall and have lost weight and have remained with minimal appetite. I’m open to all suggestions and feedback as my doc doesn’t seem too concerned.... thank you!

misscliocat,

Are you supplementing biotin (Vit B7) as this can interfere with TSH test results ?

Agree a high pituitary result could be related. If you post your results complete with ranges (numbers in brackets), members will comment.

How are you feeling on 150 Tirosint ?

Just testing TSH doesn't give you very much information. Did you have FT4/FT3 tested at the same time? We really need to look at all three results together to get a clear picture.

Were all your tests done at the same time of day - fasting or non-fasting?

By 'my pituitary hormone' do you mean the TSH or something else?

At this most recent only TSH was tested and by error; my urgent care doc tested for it and it was at 20 where the top of the range was 3.0.... :/. Fasting, yes... but no Biotin as I haven’t taken that in years since not seeing a difference in hair and also in knowing how it can misconstrue labs....

I’ll accrue the most recent free labs and post ASAP..... (I’m based in the US at the moment in case the numbers appear different).

And as for the pituitary, my apologies as I should have been more specific, but prolactin.... I’ve been on this hunch that something has been up for awhile but nobody is even really considering it a big deal. I’m just concerned that my TSH is rising and at rapid speed. My endo has suggested to jump to 175 mcg of liquid Tiro but I was initially given a sample of ten days worth and it felt too much... so I asked for 150 but ran out during a recent trip and returned to my usual compounded brand.... so, I’m HOPING that it’s just the compounded T4 not being consistent but feels like a major error has to be involved for it to jump like that.....

I'm afraid I have no experience of compounded T4 or liquid Tirosint, but it would be very unusual for the TSH to move that quickly, even if the hormone you're taking were unstable. But, have to wait and see all the labs and ranges before making any comment. :)
