Strange one, I rang ultra sound department to find out if they'd received my gp referral he had sent two weeks ago and first off she said if its routine it'll be up to 8 weeks for an appointment, she then asked some details and put me on hold, came back and said that she can book me an appointment there and then for a week and a half time. I'm hoping that it isn't because it is classed as urgent as it isn't on my referral sheet. Very strange! Perhaps it's because the doctor has put suggested mediastinal goitre on my referral?

Thyroid ultrasound
When I originally had a goitre I was rushed through as there is a tiny chance of cancer. There's a special system where we're guaranteed to get seen quite quickly. Or you may just have been lucky and there was a cancellation and she could hand the appointment to you.
Thanks for reply 😁 how did you get on with yours? I hate the waiting, haven't had any info, just a chest xray for a cough and a note on referral about the goitre
The ultrasound isn't too bad. I had another one recently as a check up. It's just like having one to look at a baby. They put a lot of jelly onto your neck and roll a little hand-held scanner over it. Don't have to take any clothes off or have any pain or anything. The worst bit is its a strange encounter with someone, lying on the bed showing your neck.
Hospital timings can be a nightmare. I'm waiting almost a year to get a follow-up from an MRI scan!
Yeah hopefully I can get some info when I'm having the scan if they're willing lol. The gp put on my referral low neutrophils of 1.7 but I'd had antibiotics for cough so its probably that
Wow nearly a year! The waiting times are crazy!
I tried to ask last time, but the ultrasound operator refused to tell me anything and said it had to go off to be interpreted. I've heard some people on the forum get told things on the day, so it must be luck.
