I'm not really sure what I'm asking! I have an under active thyroid also I suffer with depression. I have the most awful smelling farts!
I seem to fart all the time! Could there be a link between any of the above? It can be embarrassing! Thank you

Time to address your diet ...😊
Pretty much a given for me if I were to start back on cow dairy and/or gluten. I am sensitive to both... and is also painful. Avoiding soy as well, but I am less symptomatic with that. Some recommend complete avoidance of grains, but I am fine with porridge, polenta and rice. Also, some nuts can be tricky to digest, so can fish if it's not that fresh due to the oils going rancid ( wish I lived in a fishing village) and a similar rule for meat. Cooking meat slowly and on the bone really helps with digesting it. Smaller meals as well, but don't skimp on breakfast. They say dine early (at around 5.30pm and snack late at about 8.00) for adrenal support....which is more manageable for the gut as well.
You could try an elimination diet to see what foods are causing this, from personal experience gluten was the trigger 😖
Yes big link between digestive issues and hashimotos. A lot of us find going strict gluten free is a saviour. Also eliminating added sugars will reduce wind. Have you tried doing that?
Have you got constipation? This is a normal with hashis too as transit through gut is slower. If so try adding ground linseeds. Increase from 1 teaspoon a day gradually up to two or three tablespoons. Lovely mixed in with natural yoghurt which is good for gut biome.
Good luck
Ps addressing gut issues will ease depression. Link between gut biome and depression now we’ll established.
You say you have been diagnosed for underactive thyroid. Are you on replacement hormone (usually Levothyroxine), and if so, what dose? Do you know if you have Hashimotos, (autoimmune thyroiditis)? It sounds as if you are under medicated, that in itself can cause depression. What other symptoms do you have?
Post any recent blood results, with reference ranges, which will help us advise you. In the UK you need only ask the surgery and they should print out copies for you. Some have online access which you can use. In the UK they are not allowed to refuse, or charge for results any more, and the receptionist can print them on the spot.
Hypothyroidism itself can play havoc with your digestion too, as well as just about every other body system.
Thanks for your reply. I was on levothyroxine but I was also taking T3 from abroad. My source dried up ,and to cut a long story short ,I've ended up on NDT and no levothyroxine. As far as I know it's not Hashimoto's.
My most recent blood tests were in March 2019. I was taking 4 x 60mg NDT tablets a day , 2 first thing and 2 early afternoon, after the March blood tests I increased the early dose to 3 x 60mg. I've yet to get retested.
Here are my March results.
Serum free T4 level 10.4 (range 12.00-22pmol/L)
Serum free T3 level 4.7 (range 3.10-6.80pmol/L)
Serum TSH level 0.03 (range 0.27-4.20mu/L)
Any advice please? Thanks
Improving your gut health may help.
Try eating kefir for probiotics, lots of fruit & vegetables for prebiotics, & cut out all processed food from your diet.
Until i got my thyroid near optimal and sorted my gut health out my dr said i had IBS it was painful, sudden and gassy. I cut out grains, white carbs, sugar and started kefir and eating for gut health. Iv been better ever since, the odd occasion i slip and eat bread it is back within 20 mins and lasts days xxx
I've just googled Kefir, I'm not sure that I will like it. Can you use flavoured ones too ?
I make milk kefir as the amount of sugar used in the water grains would set me off. I dont mind natural yogurt and it tastes like that, a bit tangy, I mix carb free butterscotch sauce with it, fruit or just glug it down. Its worth it to me to have a healthy gut, keep your gut healthy and most other stuff falls into place, well it did for me and its inexpensive, if it doesnt work its not lots of money wasted like on loads of supplements and tests x
