Short history: I was diagnosed with hypothyroid more than 10 years ago. I was recently diagnosed with Hashimotos about 2 years ago. Currently I am 23 weeks pregnant with our 5th kid. I just got my thyroid panel back.
Anyway....
Starting off the pregnancy, I was at 120mgs daily of NP Thyroid. They increased my dosage by 30 more mgs because at that time, my T4 was low (hypothyroid).
Now, after having been on it for 6 weeks, they did the blood work again. Everything is in normal range (T4, T3 uptake) but now my TSH is low (.39 - hyperthyroid). Soooo they wanted to take me off the 30mgs and go back to where I started at with the 120mgs.
This doesn't make any sense to me because that dosage didn't work before. I asked them if it was because I was at a different stage in pregnancy. Then they asked how far along I am (rrrrr....shouldn't they know this?). I said 23 weeks. The nurse then said she would check with the doctor and get back with me.
Turns out, now the doc is saying to keep it at the full dosage 120mcgs because he would "rather have me hyper than hypo during pregnancy". What?????
I have had other doctors during my past pregnancies who worked effortlessly to get me on track and neither hypo nor hyper. Is what he is doing safe for me and baby?
