Povidone

Does anyone know whether Povidone-K should be taken with thyroid medication, it has appeared as a filler in some new blood pressure tables, I think it is iodine related, and had thought if one was on t3 and t4, you should not have iodine, is this correct

Povidone is NOT povidone-iodine! There are products which combine povidone with iodine as an alternative to the "traditional" tincture of iodine. But plain povidone does not contain iodine.

Povidone (polyvinylpyrrolidone, PVP) is used in the pharmaceutical industry as a synthetic polymer vehicle for dispersing and suspending drugs. It has multiple uses, including as a binder for tablets and capsules, a film former for ophthalmic solutions, to aid in flavoring liquids and chewable tablets, and as an adhesive for transdermal systems.[1]

Povidone k30 has the molecular formula of (C6H9NO)n and appears as a white to slightly off-white powder. Povidone formulations are widely used in the pharmaceutical industry due to their ability to dissolve in both water and oil solvents. The k number refers to the mean molecular weight of the povidone. Povidones with higher K-values (i.e., k90) are not usually given by injection due to their high molecular weights. The higher molecular weights prevent excretion by the kidneys and lead to accumulation in the body. The best-known example of povidone formulations is povidone-iodine, an important disinfectant.[2]

thank you, just wondered, this particular tablet has 11 fillers!! I thought the previous one I was taking, had enough at 8!

Does the number of excipients really matter?

Yes, I know that the more there are, the more likely one of them will affect you. I appreciate the fact that Tirosint is available with just four ingredients.

If two tablets are the same physical size, the more different ingredients there are, the less of each one will be present. (Yes - very simplistic, but I think it makes some sense.)

From a quick Google, Povidone K is a inactive filler ingredient in some tablets.

Povidone-iodine is known as PVP-I and is used as a skin disinfectant.

Hi very intreasting post . Wether you are aware that povidone is a synthetic disinfectant in form..

Would you in jest drain cleaner ..

Please do your OWN research. You are the one questioning the facts.

Lot of people not checking ingredients on here and sensitivities don't show for 6-15 days unfortunately no one connects the obvious dots .

Thank you for your reply, it concerns me the amount of fillers in tablets, unfortunately I take quite a few, some fillers sound almost toxic, and even talc is now questionable?! I appreciate they have to bind the drug with something, but up to 11 in one tablet seems over the top.

Not only a hashimotos diagnosis I also have trust issues lol

Labrats the lot of us .

And noones got a blinking clue .

Not having my happy heart shaped thyroid for tea that's for sure lol ..

Need all the heart I can get 😉.
