At present, I am on oral steriods for TED. However, I noticed that over the past couple days that I have been experiencing pain on eye movement again. I went back to the ophthalmologist who indicated that nothing had changed, but my vision does feel impacted. I have been using the lubricant eye drops to see, if as he suggested, the dryness was part of the problem. Please advise.
a Rampant sinus infection is my bet.. We are all prone to frequent sinus infections and they absolutely can cause eye pain on movement, and headaches behind the eyes and in the forehead also tri-geminal pain. All caused by hypothyroidism and better fixed by getting the thyroid meds right rather than chasing around treating the symptoms it gives us.
I've never noticed if there was pain with eye movement, but there was certainly pain when the condition was at its worst. Vision is definitely impacted. Mine became very blurry. And yes severe dryness was a huge problem. I used Vidisic gel for that and it helped.
If u previously had other eye conditions like conjunctivitis, the TED will bring out the previous symptoms like dryness.
Don’t know about TED but if you have been told to use eye drops / gel for dry eyes, make sure to get ones that are preservative free and use them really regularly throughout the day - far more often than you think you need to - not just three or four times a day.
I keep bottles of drops in my pockets and do it a lot. I’ve recently had to start using a thicker gel for night time and in the morning before I have to see but once I’m on the move it is liquid drops because they don’t blur the same way as the thicker ones do. A drop in each eye feels like it’s giving my eyes a drink of water - bliss.
The pers9n who ment8ned sinus infections has a good point too, I’ve just had one and my eyes have been so uncomfortable, that was what brought about the change to the gloopy gel at night time. When you hear someone say they have ‘dry eyes’ most people really don’t realise how difficult and painful it can be having dry eyes - sounds like a simple condition but it definitely isn’t.
I can't seem to get a nightime drop. Unfortunately, I don't live in the UK. I tried so many places and cant get any. I use the systane anytime drops. Wcen wake at night to apply some
Don’t know what country you are in but should be able to get some sort of dry eye gel in most countries. They might not be preservative free though - the ones I use at night aren’t but I use preservative free drops during the day. Have you looked online?
Also if you can get hold of an ‘eye bag’ you put it in the microwave and heat it then pop it on your eyes for a while, that is good too. I’ve got one but I prefer to squeeze a face cloth out under quite warm water and press it over my eyes, I also close my eyes and massage my eyelids as well as the hot cloth that helps things a bit too.
I am in Barbados. I will try the warm cloth. Will also see if I can order online.
I used to use something called Viscotears which was stickier so long lasting. A bit like Vaseline so definitely not to be taken daytime or if driving!

You can! But the single-dose units are the only ones that are preservative-free.
And they can be quite expensive. The NHS tariff price is £5.42 but you might get charged considerably more.

I used it a lot for TED pre orbital decompression when could hardly close my eyes and it was prescribed by Moorefields. This was 20 years ago and I think they may have changed to formulation to more of a gel. For AMD I use Superdrug moisturising drops which contain Hypromellose and usually buy one get second half price though those who give injection are so proficient now I haven't used anything except one tiny phial for last four injections!

What helped my dry eyes was IKERVIS. It has to be prescribed by an opthalmologist not your GP. I think it is quite expensive and so not used a lot on NHS . It took a few weeks to have an effect but then I found I hardly needed drops anymore. Bliss !
I had this - if I moved my eyes to the left or right it would feel like there was a lump or bruise within the eye - I was on high doses of steroids at the time (200 mg of HC) and found my eye would hemorrhage on a regular basis particularly if I drank one cup of coffee I could feel it about to go - the pain was really bad when it was about to bleed - eventually I gave up coffee altogether and realised that the lump was due to my blood pressure spiking - so check your blood pressure. Hope this helps.
