Hello. I'm new to this site. Have Hashimotos and currently on 125 Levothyroxine. I've noticed by the end of the day I have pain in my right eye and on and off headache and stiff neck. Anthony thoughts?

I don't know for sure, but you might benefit from a magnesium supplement in the evening - should help to relax the muscles on your neck. I always have tight neck and back muscles and magnesium supplements really help me! It's generally safe to take them- only downside of taking too much is loose stools (if you notice that, cut back on magnesium). Don't know about eye pain, only if it might be an ecpression of a migraine?? Magnesium helps my migraines too...

I have the same issue, but I wake up with stiff neck and headache. What magnesium supplements would you recommend? I take the Jigsaw brand, but still get stiff neck and headache in the morning.

I recently bought the 'Better for you' magnesium spray. I massage it into my feet at night and it seems to help. I may try it on my neck as i also sometimes wake with a stiff neck.

I've had a similar thing and still do. My thyroid has slowed down due to iron deficiency. Thyroid cannot function with too a low iron. Iron has sent me to the right direction with the thyroid and tiredness. The neck, shoulder, head and upper back issues (myofascial pain syndrome that I have diagnosed) is due to lack of vitamin D. Both iron and vitamin D are within the range, but lower and definitely lower than the ideal, necessary levels. With a supplement for vitamin D and iron the muscle issues have improved. I would recommend checking at least these two, if not also B12 and folate. If they are below ideal, supplement. Both iron and vitamin D in too high levels can be harmful so it's good to check the levels first and one must not supplement for too long. Only until the problem is fixed (usually iron 2-4 months, vit D a couple of months). I always say that most thyroid issues are secondary issues due to either deficiencies or liver problems. And my eye pain has gone away with this.

I totally agree with the Vitamin D theory..

Yes, and adrenal fatigue can play a big part as well. I certainly have one due to stress and iron deficiency. I ended up with low cortisol that has risen up since I started the iron supplement a bit under 2 months ago. Adrenals still can't handle much stress, but I've been much better.

I have low D 50 (75-150)and iron is on lower end of range. Also RT3 is high and FT4 is high as well.

I would recommend fixing the D and iron. Unfortunately I don't have a huge understanding on the higher ranges of thyroid issues. Usually iron deficiency causes hypothyroidism.

Epsom salt in a bath with a few drops of clary sage helps.

I was having similar. Pain, thrombin behind right eye and temple, travelling down face causing teeth to hurt. This could last for days and daily functioning was very difficult. I don't have them quite so much these days but I have been supplementing vit d, vit k, iron, selenium, magnesium, zinc as well as b12 injections/sublinguals for pernicious anaemia and b vit complex. Not sure if its a combination of all or one in particular that has helped but I certainly don't miss the pain

Have you considered that you might ALSO have fibromyalgia? The two conditions do seem to be experienced together.. I certainly have these symptoms you are talking about and many years ago my very forward thinking GP said I had fibro..

mistydog profile image
mistydogβ€’ in reply toFlippinThyroid

More often than not, when optimally treated for hypothyroidism, the fibro miraculously disappears! Fibromyalgia is a name for a collection of symptoms, not really a disease in itself. (I'm not saying people don't suffer, just that treatment is not necessarily properly understood).

FlippinThyroid profile image

It's classification is "disorder" let's get this right.. We fibro sufferers are a bit twitchy about this...

I had pain in my neck, shoulders, teeth & eye. I found I was deficient in vit d, b12, iron & folate. I now supliment & also take magnesium & selenium, which has helped. Do you clench/grind your teeth? If so try a mouth guard. Also breathing excersises as you get into bed(google it) will help you relax & take some of the tension away. Better still is if you have someone who can give you a gentle neck massage 😊

Can you describe your eye pain? My eye pain comes and goes! My he only thing that helps it is taking migraine meds! It is my right eye but I don't know how to describe it.

Alonz profile image
Alonzβ€’ in reply toGinlyn

It's more like a dull ache. Sometimes watery and blurry. Happens mostly in evening.

clairclaire profile image

I also had this same feeling a while back. Dull ache behind left eye and into left ear, off balance feeling amongst other things. A friend referred me to Holistic Doctor who said I had Adrenal Fatigue. He gave me Adrenal support supplement and I no longer have these symptoms. This is just my experience maybe something you can look into.

I have these symptoms too. Sorry others are suffering the same, but at least I don't feel such an oddity. The eyepain (which feels like my brain is trying to push my right eyeball out of it's socket) was alleviated a bit by reducing t3 by 5mg. Drinking lots of water (I wake up at least twice in the night for a drink) also helps. Going to try the magnesium spray now I've read this thread. Thanks guys!

that happened to me when i needed 100 not 150....and yet test didnt show overdose but dr said it was too much causing eye and headache symptoms trying to down regulate the thyroid which is bad....reduced dosage and it all went away

I had pain in my eye and went to the opticians who sent me on to the eye hospital. Closed angle Glaucoma was diagnosed. Mine used to hurt more in the evening and the reason was that indoors light, not being so bright, makes the pupils wider and closes the angles even more, so eye fluid can't escape, builds up & causes pain. This may be nothing to do with your eye pain, but eye pain is serious so should be checked out to eliminate.

I used to get migranes that sound like this. I found out from someone on this forum that gripewater is good for migrane. The stuff babys have for collic. Anyway I tried it and it worked much better than prescription meds. Would you believe itI dont seem to get it very often now I am on NDT.

Could this eye issue be likened to asphyxiation due to crap like insecticide and pesticides binding to blood oxygen. Would also cause tiredness, hair loss, headaches and muscle weakness. Have you had you blood oxygen levels checked??

I had pain in my eyes and a stiff neck\shoulders as one of the many side effects of levo. I just could not tolerate it beyond 25 mcg. At 25 mcg the side effects went. So is it possible your dose is too high?
