It was recommended to me by an ENT specialist as I lost my sense of smell for 3 months, but by the time I got to see the ENT consultant in person 2 months later the sense was returning...might have been the supplement, but might just have been time that healed. Didn’t notice it improved any other part of a fibromyalgia/Hashimoto/hypothyroid/ diabetic body with aches and pains.

I have been taking Super R-Lipoic Acid , 600mg a day in split dose. I have Idiopathic Neuropathy so thought that I would try it. I did seem to feel a reduction of numbness in feet but wasn't sure of effect on thyroid also heard that long term use can cause hair loss, I also experienced waves of heat after a month of the above dose. I have stopped taking it at the moment, but after further blood tests ( on thyroid and vit levels ,,,i have just above level TSH and low fT3 but am untreated at the moment) I may start taking it again. I believe that it is widely prescribed in Europe .

I had it prescribed after nerve inflammation with pain and tingling and it helped very fast. I took 600 dose a day. But I am thinking to stop after two months (with 2 weeks break) as I heard it can have negative impact on thyroid and is strong chelator so one should be careful. But yes they prescribe it Germany especially where it is official treatment against diabetic neuropathy.
