Lost of balance?: Hi, recently i found out that i... - Thyroid UK
Lost of balance?
Personally no I didn’t have that symptom from hashimotos and haven’t heard of it before, if it concerns you, then you should visit a doctor to get some tests done.
Hopefully it will pass soon
With Hashimotos it is common to have LOW B12. Has it been tested ? Also test Folate - Ferritin - VitD. Low B12 can be the cause of balance issues.
Hi Oanav, yes I also had this with low B12 and folate, but do get these tested before treatment, best to get all vitamins tested.
Try B12 for balance.
Hi Oanav - I’ve only just been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s as well and feel like that a lot of the time. My B12 is mid range and folate OK, but vit D is low. If you are able to it would probably be a good idea to test bloods privately because you get so much more information. I used Medichecks Thyroid Check Ultravit but there are other companies & tests. There’s links on the Thyroid UK site.
Other far more knowledgeable people will probably reply as well, but just wanted to let you know that you’re not alone.
Balance is always a problem for me when undermedicated. You should start to feel better when you are properly medicated.
If it is poor coordination, confusion and balance that does sound like low b12 or folate. If you feel faint, giddy, breathless and have a fast pulse on standing up it could be low iron and minerals. Or, it could be a bit of both...this is why it is important your doctor checks for b12, folate, Ferritin, iron and vitamin d as soon as they have diagnosed hypothyroidism as deficiencies are very much likely to be happening at the same time.
Hi Oanav 😊
I have newly diagnosed (6 weeks ago) and uncontrolled/undermedicated Hashimoto's, and my troubles with balance, walking/standing, and general muscle weakness are severe and still getting worse.
I am getting some physical therapy, which is helping, and also now use a rollator to help me get around. I am going to try to find a functional medicine doctor to test my vitamins again, but mine all came out fine in the initial tests.
I would see all the doctors you can, like neurologists and rheumatologists, just to make sure you don't have any overlapping/additional problems. My neurology appointment is next month.
I am struggling to accept that perhaps most if not all of my symptoms are from Hashimoto's, but apparently thyroid really can affect our whole body that severely. It can be overwhelming, eh?
I hope the support here helps you move through the early weeks of your illness with more confidence!! It helps me so much 😊
Take good care, j
Yeah.. i have too problems with muscle weakness.. i started taking the medication but only 2 days ago, i don t think i can see so soon effects. The problem with balance it s not constant, more accentuate when i am tired, not eating right or hydrate. I have in almost a Neuro appoitment but i hope all these are only from tyroid..
Take care too!
Hello
Yes I still do have this problem where I can't stand up for long and I feel very shaky in my legs when I do. I think it is related to Hashi's auto immune , it can affect so much and it really only improves when the autoimmune attacks are controlled and the antibody levels diminish. I hope the medication will improve your symptoms.
Yeah i hope so. I just started the medication.. when i am lying down i feel ok, but when i need to stand up it s horrible.
I get dizzy too and I have poor balance now. I've fallen a few times in the past couple of years, and my legs are like jelly, they're so weak. Once I'm on the floor I can't get up again without holding onto a chair or drawer unit. It's worrying. I exercise in hopes of strengthening my leg muscles but after three years on levothyroxine 200mcg they are still weak. It can be scary! xx
Yeah my muscles are weak too and i am trying to do some exercises to for legs and some cardio like walking, or slow running.. i hope this will help with my medication
Just a question do you get too the sensation that like u are high? U are not 100% present? I think i get this sensation from tiredness..
I always know when I am under medicated as I feel like a ball in a pin ball machine, bouncing off walls! Good luck with feeling better soon.
I just started the medication and i hope to see results soon. I mean i do not want to know that i have some neuro issues..
Hashis and other thyroid problems may be linked to gluten intolerance. If you haven't had
a gluten intolerance test then may be you can ask your doctor for one.
Gluten can damage your thyroid along with environmental causes such as fluoride.
Gluten can be found in wheat rye and barley and other grains.
glutenfreesociety.com is a fund of information on alternative flours and the effects gluten can have in some people with different health problems including fibromyalgia
thyroid, and other endocrine problems.
Other mineral deficiencies can make you feel dizzy such as magnesium, potassium, sodium and phosphorus. If you have more sodium than potassium it can lead to an imbalance of potassium. You can find this and magnesium in bananas, and tomatoes, and other foods. Magnesium deficiency can make your muscles weak too.

folate.
Balance may be affected by inner ear problems. you might have had a cold recently which can set it off. Hope you get the tests you need.
Expect you need information on how to take thyroid medication - whether to split the dose
or whether to take it on an empty stomach. Hope you feel better soon.
