After a year + my surgeon has agreed to take me back to theatre and investigate the clips that are hurting me inside my neck. Can't tell you what a fight I have had but a massive relief he has agreed.

Thanks fof all your feedback.

Hmmm. 43 years ago I had surgery for a large swelling on the right side of my neck. It turned out to be a badly infected branchial cleft gland. Doctors told me that it was swollen so large that it wrapped around the front of my esophagus. They removed several vials of infectious fluid before cutting out the gland. Three or 4 years later, on an icy morning, my car was rear-ended and, as a precaution, I had my neck x-rayd. The ER doctor was curious about the metal he saw on the x-ray. We had to guess that the surgeons had used metal staples, rather than sutures, to close the wound and left them in my neck. I know that I had a drainage tube in the wound for a day or two after the operation.

The big problem, as I see it, is that with metal in my neck, I could be killed if anyone ever decided to do an MRI on me after an accident that left me unable to communicate. Of course, 43 years ago, there was no such thing as an MRI.
