Hi everyone

I’m still suffering with insomnia

I see some people take theirs at bedtime

Could anyone let me know if they’ve tried this and it’s helped

I have auto immune disease which is causing it

Thanks Derek

Hi Derek

I always take my levo at bedtime, my main reason was because I take quite a few supplements and it would have been difficult to leave the required gap between them and my levo if I took it in the morning.

It doesn't seem to interfere with my sleeping pattern.

I try to take it just before I turn out the light and I ensure I have't eaten anything substantial for at least 3 hours ( I don't eat late usually).

I also make sure I don't have any milky drinks late on, I do sometimes have a cup of tea at around 8.30- 9.00pm but I don't have much milk in that. :)

There has been some research which found that for some people, taking levothyroxine at night may actually be better (I assume that's what you meant when you wrote that "some people take theirs at bedtime"). I've taken mine at night for 10 years or so, mostly also with my T3 too; and it hasn't interrupted my sleep.

I agree with you MaisieGray . I dose with 1/8 grain NDT before bed and it's been very helpful .

Where do you get NDT from?

Doctors won’t prescribe it and does it work better than levothyroxine?

NDT is a combination of T3 T4 made from porcine . It's from a pigs thyroid . In the states it's by script only . If you want to self dose you can get from Thailand NDT without script . Some wonderful members can PM you how you can get it .

Best Wishes .

I think that is the standard instructions because mine says the same.

I decided to give the evenings a go after reading someone else's experience on here. I had hoped it might help me to convert a bit better, sadly that has not been the case but it is easier to fit in around my supplements.

Just as a matter of interest are you optimally medicated? Because if you are not that may be affecting your sleeping patterns.

Good luck:)

When I first started levothyroxine, I was not sleeping very well. Tended to fall asleep for maybe an hour then wake and be unable to get back to sleep for hours.

One of the first effects I noticed was sleeping better - less likely to wake and more likely to get back to sleep even if I did.

I have always taken my levothyroxine at bed-time.

I heard and read that many on thyroid meds do very well with bed time dosing .

Dear Degs58,

I can't answer, your question, in Specific terms however. Everybody's 'Body' is different, in many ways, as are Auto-Immune Conditions. In other words Everyone reacts differently- a particular drug, or Drugs, can cause insomnia in some but drowsiness in others. Yes changing the Time(s), that you, take your Drug(s) may, very well, 'Help' your Problem....It's certainly worth a try! Even, relatively small, changes/ adjustments to your 'Drug Regime' can have 'Dramatic' effects on YOUT metabolism. You need to speak to you Doctor(s)/ Consultant(s), I would suggest, fairly quickly. I may also be possible to alter One drug, for another. (Some years ago a, very dear friend- she didn't have 'Autoimmune' exactly- was put on a Drug that She Really didn't 'Get On' with. She became Moody (not like her) Breathless, Shaky, VERY badly Constipated (poor girl just Couldn't 'go'), and had Random 'Aches & Pains' everywhere. Within Two days, of this Drug being changed, she Stopped shaking, went to the Toilet (about six times- she tells me) her mood changed and her skin began Clearing Up- she hadn't associated THAT with 'Drugs' at all.)

As I said, right at the start, I can't give you specific answers Degs58, but I CAN try and Offer you a few 'Pointers'. Please Do see your Doctors(s)/ Consultant(s), as soon as you can. It only remains, for me, to send my Best Wishes and Prayers, to you.

Kindest Regards

AndrewT
