Blood test request

I had to go for a blood test today as my levo was upped 6 weeks ago. When I booked the test I gave the receptionist the list of things I needed testing as last time my gp only tested for t s h. When I arrived I asked the nurse what was being tested. Again only t s h and no Vit d which I'm extremely low on. Fortunately she was an agency nurse so I gave her my list and she added them to the request sheet - watch this space to see if the lab will actually do it!!!! I'll post my results when I get them as I'll need some help understanding them.

Hi Denise29w

Unfortunately it is the LABs who are in charge and even though I got nurse to put T3 required by endo on the LAB form it was still refused. No point in my asking for Vitamin D for son as they wont do it due to cost. Thankfully he is under endocrinologist in WSM and they did bloods for us. Guess what Vitamin D suboptimal - think of the illnesses they could stop from hsppening if only they would test for these important things. My hubby is under same chap and he is going to write to doc to get Vitamin D. However as I told him I suspect they still wont do it - good luck. I hope you get it sorted this time!

I've asked for T3 and Vitamin D testing more than once but they will never even request it so don't know if the lab would be the same. Have been forced to get private tests instead.

If I don't get them tested I'll be contacting my consultant who always did them

I don't think they are allowed to test T3 any more with the NHS, unless you wait months to see an endo - who may be willing to

It depends on the lab. I always sneakily get the nurse to add FT3 and it is always tested. Same with Vit D if it is requested. So hopefully yours will get through too. Fingers crossed. x
