For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw). This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

TMJ is common in hypothyroid patients, especially with Hashimoto's

Just had a wee look at options. Would being on B12 and vit D adversely affect results?

Cheers

No, just don't take on morning of blood draw

B12 will likely show high. (You have to stop B12 supplements for 4-6 months to get base level)

If taking any supplements containing biotin (like vitamin B complex ) then these supplements need to be stopped a week before as Biotin can falsely affect test results

If taking iron or ferritin and want to know levels stop iron supplements a week before too

Are you taking 50mcg Levothyroxine on alternate days? Standard starter dose is 50mcgs Levothyroxine per day unless over 50 years old, then starter dose is 25mcg.

Bloods retested 6-8 weeks after each dose increase

Ok all sorted , but now on aciclovir ....again....😡 Should I wait till finished course and should I leave time after . I read some articles regarding shingles and thyroid but wasn't clear how meds may impact on thyroid.

Thank you Karen

I take 50 one day and 75 the next. Been on thyroxin since 1989. Dose was reduced from 150 daily around 2011... Same time as menopause... Lol.

Was over active and mad as a brush 1985/86. Settled for a while then. Post partum. Very under. Not sure if I have ever been symptom free!!!!

All I do is vitD sublingual and magnesium oil on legs for terrible cramps.

So I should only need to do as I usual do and leave levo till after blood taken?

Would it differ on day I'm due the 50 or 75.thank you K

You are likely very under medicated on such a low dose of Levothyroxine

Strongly suggest you get FULL Thyroid and vitamin testing asap

Low vitamin levels are extremely common when on too low a dose of Levothyroxine

Low viTamils tend to lower TSH, then dose of Levothyroxine reduced further

Essential to maintain optimal vitamin levels

Is this how you do your tests?

Suggest you just test vitamin D via here now

vitamindtest.org.uk

Wait for shingles to go to do thyroid testing

You can then at least start improving vitamin D, if it's still too low

A daily good quality vitamin C too can help support adrenals and fight infection too
