Overmedicated?

Hello I recently had my free T3 and free T4 tested these are my results.

Free T3 6.4 range 2.3-4.2

Free T4 1.4 range 0.8-1.8

I took 2 1/2 grains of Naturethroid at 6am then had blood drawn at 1pm that afternoon. I forgot to not take it that morning. Do I need to take less? Thank you for any advice

The time gap between NDT and blood draw is normally 12 hours or 8-12 hours, because of the T3 element.

You left 7 hours so your FT3 is showing higher than your normal circulating level, but maybe not that much higher.

Taking NDT often tends to lower FT4 and yours is 60% through range.

You're possibly are taking a bit too much NDT and it might be worth trialling a slightly lower dose, maybe reduce by 1/4 of a grain and retest in 6 weeks, also take into account how you feel.

An early morning, fasting test is recommended when the TSH result is important, it won't have any effect on FT4 and FT3 levels.

Thank you for your advice, I will reduce slightly and test in 6 weeks. Take care.

How would they know they're accurate?

I don't think them feeling well means that their blood tests are more accurate after 24 hours rather than 12 hours. It just means they need more thyroid hormone than the average. Not that that's a bad thing, but let's not mix up science with feelings. The results of normal circulating FT3 in the blood will be accurate after 12. After 24 hours it will be lower. You can't argue with that. The fact that they need to cheat on their blood tests in order to get enough thyroid hormone to make them well is a different story altogether. :)

So the blood tests should be done 12 hours after taking the medicine? What should I do If I am taking the medicine in the morning ? Do I then take them at night on the day prior to testing? Thank you!

T3 and NDT, yes.

24 hours is for T4 only.

So, either take your T3/NDT at night on that one occasion. Or, split your dose on that day and take half in the morning and half in the evening. :)

Hi reallyfedup 123,

I leave about 15hrs after taking meds before testing my FT4 and FT3.

Would I be better leaving 24 hrs?
