Dairy Free.....Goat/Sheep milk/cheese ?

Im understanding that the reason for going dairy free is due to the casein protein being recognised as an antigen and triggering the immune response.... I understand that the protein in cows milk is larger than that in goats / sheep’s milk which I believe is more like that of our own..... So do we need to give up all dairy or just cows milk products....?

I find going gluten free much easier than totally dairy free....

Not sure if I’m understanding this correctly 🤔

Thanks x

Just found a site which, at least as a superficial read, seems to make sense of your question.

mygenefood.com/dairy-danger...

(I don't know anything about the site but that page is relatively balanced and tries to look at the issues.)

Interestingly, the site mentions horse milk having lower protein. (No, I've never seen it on the supermarket shelves. :-) )

Henry Williamson, author of Tarka the Otter and the Chronicle of Ancient Sunlight, titled one volume Donkey Boy. He was fed milk from asses as a babe. Which has a long history of being better tolerated and closer to human milk than that of many other mammals.

This is a new one on me that I’ve just stumbled across.... Camel milk!!.... expensive but v nutritious, high B12....., the cooking fat is 40% B12...., I’ve just joined the waiting list for a pot..., always interested to try new things, although couldn’t afford to make this a regular!!! Shame....

I seem fine with goats cheese and sheep yogurt here in Crete. I have never been a fan of cow's in spite of growing up on a dairy farm ! I think it will be trial and error ...

I read with interest a previous post which you were discussing olive oil and your own olive grove!!!!, and your own goat..., How wonderful!!!!!, sounds idyllic 😊

I don’t feel that I actually react to dairy and have dropped cows milk, I’m more than happy with goat and sheep alternatives..., love a bit of Roquefort 😋 ...., interestingly I’ve just been reading about camel milk 🐪!! Supposed to be v nutritious..., maybe a couple of camels too ?!?! 😉 x

Sorry no goat ! - that must have been another - on the same thread perhaps ? Good luck with Camel's milk - hope it doesn't give you the hump !

I read from a reputable source that raw, unpasteurized, grass-fed dairy products from cows is much better tolerated. I'm in the US & can get raw cheese, but raw milk, yogurt & unaged cheeses are near impossible due to nonsense legislation in many states.

I've also come across that but haven't had a look into it yet.... so many things to take onboard when diagnosed with Hashimotos!!!!!

Yes, it's daunting!

My grandson is nine and sensitive to dairy products, he seems quite happy with rice milk. It has added calcium so he doesn’t miss out too much. My daughter in law also buys dairy free spread and cheese.
