Left my tablets at hotel

So I stupidly left my carbimazole tablets at the hotel I stayed at Monday night, left them in a bag with food so they disposed of it, now I can get the brand that I know agree with me because all pharmacies say it’s out of stock and unable to order in, what do I do now? I’ve tried other brands and all make me unwell 😢 is there an issue with Accord?

They have offered my Teva but I’ve read a lot about that brand and not good 😢

I don't know of an Accord brand of Levo inthe UK, are you sure that's right? Happy to be corrected but I can't see it on ThyroidUK's list of thyroid replacements either.

It appears that the following companies produce or distribute Carbimazole in the UK:

Amdipharm UK Limited,

Morningside Healthcare Limited,

Essential-Healthcare Limited,

Flamingo Pharma UK Limited,

Accord-UK Limited,

Macleods Pharma UK Limited

The branding on the packet might not always be the same as the company name,

I was on amdipharm years ago but all chemists say that’s no longer available

Follow the link below. It will take you to the search results page on the Electronic Medicines Compendium. That lists two makes - what appear to be Lime and Advanz.

Follow the link to Advanz and it takes you the actual documents (Summary of Product Characteristics and Patient Information Leaflet). Those still say "Amdipharm".

What we cannot so easily say is why the pharmacists are insisting it doesn't exist. It could have been withdrawn but the documents not yet removed. It could be in short supply. Or the pharmacists could be missing the fact that Advanz (formerly Concordia International) own Amdipharm.

For the last couple of prescriptions, I’ve had pots of Accord from my hospital pharmacy. If I’ve needed top-ups before my next endo appointment, they have been Amdipharm blister packs from my local pharmacy via my GP...so both have been available in the U.K. in recent months (last Accord prescription was just before Christmas, last Amdipharm probably November).

Accord tabs are white, so maybe it’s something in the colour that’s causing the probs ? Have you submitted a ‘yellow card’ ?

Accord also seem to manufacture 15mg tabs, which the others don’t.

I can only take lime pharma (now accord) which are the white pills. I can’t take amdipharm brand (the pink/orangey ones) I think it’s because of the fillers used. There is a new supplier now flamingo but I’ve not come across these yet. Most UK pharmacists dispense amdipharm because they are cheaper so I had to yellow card The amdipharm in order to have a consistent supply of the accord. My last prescription was dispensed last week.

I was given the flamingo ones but they are pink and didn’t agree with me, I have enough for couple weeks just about so hopefully they will be back in stock by the time I need them

Why don’t you try having a word with your regular pharmacist about it. They are usually quite good if they understand why you are requesting a certain brand. I do know that a lot of people who take levothyroxine for under active have a lot of problems getting certain brands. I personally believe it’s down to cost and pharmacists are instructed to buy the cheapest brands or generics unless there is a valid reason not to.
