Magnesium for constipation

I was wondering which kind of magnesium is best, I cannot take the citrate form, for some reasons it gives me pain in the feet! I know it is strange but it really happens.

Do you have any suggestions?

Magnesium citrate is about the only one that has laxative properties, as far as I know. It's the citrate part that does it. High doses of vit C will have the same effect.

Magnesium hydroxide will work, used to be 'Milk of Magnesia', but I would try to address the underlying causes. It's unlikely to be hypothyroidism as your TFTs are OK. Other causes could be diet or lack of exercise. I would make sure you have enough fibre, especially soluble fibre such as oats and also fruit. Also exercise, not short aggressive exercise but more frequent and gentle, especially outdoors as the cold seems to help.

Thank you! I know you are right. I Think it's my gut problems, methane Sibo, mostly. I used to eat a lot of fruit and vegetables and it didn't make any difference in my constipation, also I do yoga and walk a lot every day....I will try Magnesium hydroxide !

Your thyroid hormone levels look OK but if you have signs like dry skin or slow heartbeat I would increase your dose as SIBO is strongly associated with hypothyroidism.

Heart rate at rest is 68 and skin quite dry in some parts of the body..so yes I guess increasing the dose would be a possibility. Thank you.
