From previous post

I have purchased some T3 and now need advice as to what to do next.

Active B12 is 52.6 (range 37.5-188)

vitamin D -122( 50-175)

serum folate 7.08 ( 3.89- 19.45 )

my antibodies are not raised but my ferritin is high, I don’t take supplements just been eating more liver & pate. Any advice would be gratefully received :)

Before adding T3 you need to optimise all your vitamins.

Active B12 is low. Below 70 suggests investigating for B12 deficiency - see here:

viapath.co.uk/our-tests/act...

You should check for symptoms of B12 deficiency here:

b12deficiency.info/signs-an...

Any that you have you should list, discuss with your GP and ask for testing for B12 deficiency/pernicious anaemia.

Folate is low, it should be at least half way through range. B12 and folate work together. This can be supplemented for with a good B Complex containing 400mcg methylfolate (e.g. Thorne Basic B or Igennus Super B) but do not start supplementing for this until further investigation into your low B12 has been done. Supplementing folate will mask signs of B12 deficiency and should only be started after B12 injections or supplements started.

Vit D is fine.

I would cut back on the amount of liver and pate you eat.

Thank you , I’m not eating liver etc very much so I’m surprised it’s gone so high, if I go to my gp will they test my B12 based on my private results do you think ? Im obviously going to have to reduce my thyroxine back to 100 to get back in the range - so will probably feel not so good what do you think about taking the T3 ?

One would hope so if you present them with the evidence. List any symptoms. Print off the link to Viapath.

You may need it but first priority is optimising all your nutrient levels, then see how that affects your FT4/FT3. If FT4 is still high and FT3 low then that's when to consider adding T3, not at the moment though. Nutrient levels need to be optimal for any thyroid hormone to work properly.

I find ferritin goes above range when FT4 is high (regardless of level of FT3)

Be interesting to see if your ferritin drops when reduce Levo dose

High ferritin doesn't necessarily mean we have high iron either. Ideally a full iron panel could test that

BEFORE starting on T3 vitamin levels need to be optimal

Presumably you have been supplementing vitamin D as it's at good levels

When we improve vitamin D it can increase need for B vitamins as explained here

drgominak.com/sleep/vitamin...

Did you start supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex?

B12 and folate on the low side.

Supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in not folic acid may be beneficial.

B vitamins best taken in the morning after breakfast

Recommended brands on here are Igennus Super B complex. (Often only need one tablet per day, not two. Certainly only start with one tablet per day after breakfast. Retesting levels in 6-8 weeks ).

Or Jarrow B-right is popular choice, but is large capsule

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results
