Came across this site searching for information on abnormal EKGs and low thyroid functioning.

It can be a metabolism problem affecting the heart. Are you being treated for hypothyroidism?

Emailed doctor and she recommends a low dose levothyroxine.

It would be good to have more thyroid testing which would include FT4, FT3, TSH and hopefully your doctor is looking at that and recommending levothyroxine. You introduce thyroid hormone slowly and increase every few weeks enough to reach higher levels of FT4 and FT3 in the ranges which I presume are very low right now.

Testing for thyroid antibodies and other possible deficiencies is in order. If you have heart symptoms you may also have suffered other deficiencies that your organs need. Normally you will be low in all the b vitamins, vitamin d so you will need to build your body up.

Thanks Heloise. You are so right. In January, my Vitamin D was 15 and B-12 was low. They put me on supplements. D is now only 30 so they want me to continue with that. B-12 increased significantly so they suggested I hold off that but I imagine I would have to retest to see if it is maintaining or if it dropped. I follow a plant-based diet so that figures. They also said to take magnesium 400 mg. I didn't know if any of those supplements or the K-2 100 mcg I took on my own were contributing to the rapid heart beat. It is somewhat difficult to get definitive guidance on a regimen for supplements and to figure out interactions. I did read of some people having palpitations with Vitamin D3 and also K-2, and some say it might be the fillers. So much research to be done, but I am impressed that you spotted the D and B vitamins deficiency. Thanks much.

I have had a range of heart issues related to being hypothyroid and ended up in A&E with abnormal ECGs. I have had inverted T-waves, right branch bundle blocks and all kinds of things. I have seen a cardiologist and all is okay - the lack of energy in my body was making it difficult for my heart to conduct its business in a normal manner! All of these issues are reversible - I have also had plenty of normal ECGs and crucially, no arrhythmias. So you may find the levothyroxine does the trick.

I spent a lot of time online learning how to read ECGs as it was suspected I might have WPW at one point. They are absolutely fascinating to learn about - and very complex. Respect to cardiologists! 🤸🏿‍♀️

We've learned a lot from functional doctors who put information on podcasts, etc. Dr. O'Bryan's father died because he had no b vitamins in his body and had a heart attack. He never actually had heart disease. It takes certain bacteria in the microbiome to make b vitamins. You need to learn all this information if you want to get well which you can. Magnesium is vital and the DEFICIENCY will cause palpitations. I would take co q 10 if you can afford to which is also necessary to the heart muscle and is natural to the body.

I hope you stay with us, conventional doctors are fairly clueless when it comes to chronic conditions. Doctors like this are much more helpful. You need to find out if you have Hashimoto's so you can treat this as the autoimmune disease it probably is.

Thanks, Heloise. I have the COQ10 and will stick to taking it every day. Sometimes I don't. Also the magnesium. Capsules + Epsom Salts Bath + A gel that I rub on skin. It is wonderful that this group is researching so much. Knowledge is power! Thanks again.

Keep learning, much can be done yourself and with proper supplements so if your doctor doesn't know, you can find out. Treating it as an autoimmune condition can go a long way even if it isn't proven yet. People are becoming more and more prone to the 80 or more autoimmune issues simply due to either certain foods like gluten or the toxins on our food like glyphosate. This is huge. Stay well.

I had heart problems, got diagnosed, and had surgery. Years later I learned it was really a symptom of my being hypo, which had not been diagnosed yet. No doc ever tested my thyroid function properly before the heart surgery.
