I have been told to look to see who stocks NDT in my area. Yorkshire. I am also told that prescriptions change according to who stocks what and is the cheapest. I am already upset.

My plan is to find a supplier myslef if i can. Please can you pm me?

Pinktijen,

it's unclear from your post whether or not you have (or will have) a prescription. If you have, there's a list of stockists on the Thyroid UK website here thyroiduk.org/tuk/treatment... that you can contact to find out who can supply you at the best price.

Have you been promised that you will be provided with a prescription for NDT, and if so, will it be a NHS prescription or a private one? NDTs are not licensed for use in the UK, and the Regional Medicines Optimisation Committee restated in November 2018 that "The prescribing of unlicensed liothyronine and thyroid extract products is not supported". However, if you are, for whatever reason, going to be prescribed it, any/every UK pharmacy should be able to source it for you in principle, through their existing wholesaler or through an international importer-wholesaler if they don't already have one. If the prescription is an NHS one, then cost isn't an issue for you, only for the pharmacist; if it is a private prescription you may find that buying online without a prescription, may be a cheaper option for you; and that would be especially the case, with Thai products rather than American NDTs.

I have not got a prescription. I am waiting to see what my specialist says.

If i do this. How on earth will i know what dose to take?

So it's important that you are prepared for being prescribed NDTs on the NHS possibly not being an option for you. You could use this data base to identify if Armour is being prescribed within your CCG generally, and/or by your GP practise.

openprescribing.net/

If you were to be given a private prescription by your GP (more likely with T3 than NDT to be honest) they would monitor you and run blood tests in the normal way; if you self-medicate, they may/should still do so, but some cut up rough and say no - they shouldn't really but if they do, then you can do what many of us here do, which is use private labs for testing, then seek the guidance of experienced members here and in other fora.

Is there a reason why you aren't expecting or wanting to be prescribed Levothyroxine, either alone or in combination with T3?

Only an nhs endocrinologist can diagnose and prescribe NDT or T3 on NHS

Rare to get T3, and many currently prescribed are having to fight to keep it (due to cost)

Even rarer to get prescription on NHS for NDT

May I ask why you are not going to try Levo first. Majority get on fine with it they're just not on here. It would be a lot easier and cheaper if you could get on with Levo.

I also have auto immune and i am allergic to most of the fillers listed in the tablets. I can't even take certain brands of paracetamol as i get do ill. I am petrified i will be bed bound forever on these. I know how i react. At keast NDT is natural... and i will have my thyroid removed totally.

The base material of NDT is natural, but it still is mixed with fillers and coatings to hold it all together.

As FancyPants54 said NDT is made from desiccated pig thyroid and full of fillers. I believe there is a liquid Levo that is usually given to those with allergic reaction to fillers in Levo tablets but afraid I do not know much about it. Maybe try another post stating your allergic reactions asking about liquid Levo and any other advice.

I myself am on NDT.

Good luck

((hugs)) linda
