Hypo thyroid for 20+ years, Stage 2 thyroid cancer 6 years ago. Didn't feel well on T4 before cancer and have been worse since.
Last June, I managed to get a referral to my local endocrinologist, who said he would act as my advocate for an IFR for T3. (I know, I know) He recommended another endo out of my area. Waited until the end of October for that. Brilliant! Saw a member of the consultant's team who told me yes, they'd start me on T3 Hurray! I waited for four weeks, rang the hospital and the consultant rang me back. Ever so sorry, but for various reasons he couldn't/wouldn't prescribe, go to my MDT. Saw yet another endo at yet another hospital, who was annoyed the first two wouldn't prescribe. (But neither did she) The letter from her was to have been with me by Monday this week - their 'medical secretaries are behind, it will be at least another week'
The money it's cost the NHS for three referrals would just about have paid for my trial of T3, even at the extortionate prices the NHS is paying for it.
I'm lucky in that my OH will fight my corner for me, but it shouldn't be like this.
Vent over.

Welcome to our forum and it is the perfect place to 'vent' our feelings as the majority have had to struggle so hard to recover as it hasn't been forthcoming for our members.
There is a case before the House of Lords and I'll give a link about the withdrawal of T3. The price has gone from a few £s a packet to nearly £400 per pack I believe in the UK.
I have my thyroid gland and couldn't improve on levothyroxine at all. I tried this and that and have now been well on liothyronine (T3 only) for a while now but I was told by GP that they'd no longer prescribe. Many have been forced to source their own but no details are permitted on the forum.
Research has shown that a combination of T4/T3 in a 3:1 or 4:1 basis can also improve health.
If you copy/paste some of your history into your Profile -which has your name only on it - it means that if you post again the members can look at your past history without you having to explain all over again.
So frustrating! You would assume that if a consultant said you needed a certain drug, you would be able to get it!
I saw a consultant when I wanted to trial T3. "I could have given you a prescription if you had seen me a couple of months ago" he said. "I tried, you cancelled!" I said. "Yes, but we are here now" he said.
